Recommend me a cam kit l99 to ls3/c6ed...

Okay I have a L99(which is being LS3'd) going into a 1970 GTO with a c6 cradle up front... tr6060

I have most of the vvt/dod removal parts.

I also am swapping out the water pump/crank pulley since this is going into a "corvette" c6 cradle.

I have the LS3 corvete oil pan, the ls3 c6 front accessory kit(ac, pulleys tensioner, c6 ps pump, alternator). So i guess I am ls3ing/c6ing a L99...

VVT/DOD parts I have: Ls7 lifter kit, trays, valley pan, head gaskets, head bolts

Still need( I THINK this is all).
crank balancer(+gasket+bolt).
Water pump(c6 2009+) since I have a camaro radiator(+gaskets)
PCV hose and PCV Plug?
Timing chain(going c5r)
3 bolt cam gear
LS2 tensioner and bolts
Cam swap gasket
timing chain cover(+gasket)
Crank bolt(must replace)

trunion kit(comp cam)
LS3 stage "2" three bolt cam
Springs + pushrods

So there are so many cam kits(I guess I need a cam and spring + pushrod kit).

1. am i missing anything?

2. I don't want an insane cam, a mid level cam kit I guess. Please suggest.

thanks

Only thing I didnt see on your list that you might want to think about is a Meling oil pump. That Night Fury cam has been making alot of power. Also might want to check out a set of ported heads or aftermarket LS3 heads since you have to take them off anyway. If you are keeping it all motor have them milled because the L99 compression is less than the LS3. The new heads will have upgraded valve springs, retainers, valve job, ect.. So you wont have to buy all of that stuff seperate.

One more thing to think about if you are going with a higher lift cam is a rocker arm trunnion up grade!! Research this and you will see why....stock rocker fails and you have small needle bearings in your motor and lets just say your motor is not going to like it!!!

Yeah heads are the same, but I see the ls3 intake valves are like 19$ a piece. exhaust valves are the same.
Guides are cheap. I can sell mine and get another set or just do the upgrade for 200$... hmm

I know the pistons are the difference for the compression. And the ls3 does have a different oil pump from the l99.

The differences looking at the parts list

cam, cam cover, cam gear, intake valves, valve spings, pistons, oil pump.

crank??? what different about the crank?

The crank and rods should be the same as far as I know. The only difference in piston design is the valve reliefs. If you get a aftermarket set of heads or ported ones you can choose your cc for more compression and then have the better valve train hardware so that nothing is inferior to the LS3. Streagth wise the crank, pistons and rods are the same as a LS3.

yeah I will have to think about heads, local place is heads only shop and if I have them off... its only a slight difference(10.4 vs 10.7). Don't want to pay an arm and leg to have them ported but if your there might as well visit the flowbench/porter.

I am seriously leaning to the intake valves though, just picked up a z06 exhaust and cats. The lighter valves allow the higher RPM.

I will have a ford 9 inch rear... I just need to figure out how to get some Dodge parts on this car now.

I kept my heads stock. The gain of 10 peak hp is not worth the porting IMO. Same goes with UD Pulley.

Most see over 20rwhp. Not bad for around 1k since the heads have to come off anyway. I gained 80rwhp from my prc aftermarket heads and a small GT-11 cam. I can assure you that the cam was not worth more than 60rwhp of that 80rwhp gain. More like 50rwhp so my heads were worth around 30rwhp and I didnt even bump up the compression. Stock 10.4 compression. I think it matters which heads or head porter you use. I'm sure that if the OP used TEA he would see at least 20rwhp or more.

I will probably not do the full cnc flow for 1200$.

I will have the put the heads together though with the LS3 intakes. It will cost me (valves $154.56$) to convert them to true LS3 heads(plus trunion kit plus spring kit& retainers. I will throw a bucket of parts at them and have them hand me back two heads I know are in good shape.(60$ assembly +plus making sure valves are seating etc etc).

I see you have the trunion kit on your list. Wise choice. I still have 15 needles of 66 in my engine. I found 9 on top of the head and pulled 42 out on the magnetic plug I put in. The rest should show up on the next oil change. The races were destroyed too so I've got most of them out too. A couple more oil changes should have it cleaned out good, then going to Redline synthetic oil.

Read this thread and you will know why. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=257146
