Good luck on the Texas mile!
Thanks. I know the full body stripes are not Chevy traditional, but I've always been a fan, and I've seen a few Camaros with them and couldn't resist.

Wow great stripes! I was wanting to get the full ones but I was afraid of how it would look, I've seen some nasty stripes jobs around here but yours turned out great.

And so you said a guy just comes out to your house and puts vinyl stripes on your car in the driveway?! That's awesome!

Any word on the top out run? I didn't see where you said when you were going to it.

I also got my stripes put on the other day, I think the cars just don't look right without some kind of stripe on them.

Thanks! He installed them in my garage...very convenient.

The Texas mile is oct 25-27 in beeville TX on a runway at an old navy base. I'm working on swapping my rear diff and axels now.

Prepping for Texas Mile

Wow, when I bought the SS automatic stock rear diff, I thought it would be a quick swap of the ZL1 diff and axles back to stock...not quite so easy... Turns out the ZL1 drive shaft is about an inch shorter than the SS. So no biggie, change the drive shaft...then I discover the bushing on the SS shaft are actually slightly larger than the ZL1 ...so I had to change the trans flange too...that's more of a PITA. So I ended up having to swap out the entire ZL1 driveline, back to stock.

I'm not sure if they have aftermarket gears for the ZL1, but i'm starting to think swapping the gears might have been easier .

Anyway, now I just hope the stock SS components hold up to my current power. I have a pair of Goodyear supercar tires coming since my current tires were Y and not (Y) rated.

2 weeks to go. Then I get to do the ZL1 drive line swap again before the Camaro/Corvette shootout in Seally Texas! I can't wait for both events.

Goal is 200mph in the mile and 10.5 at the shootout!

Hex Vents

After I did my SS driveline swap . I also took the time to install my Hex Vents! I couldn't believe I was drilling and cutting my own hood, but Steve's instructions are fantastic. To fit the whipple I positioned the vents 1/2 inch wider and 1/2 inch farther back. I'm happy with the way they turned out. I'm hoping they help reduce a little lift during my mile event...last year the car was floating at 180, so if I get near my goal I'm sure she'll be a little light on her toes!

I'm still waiting on some color match trays, so these pics don't have trays...I ended up plasti-dipping the stainless trays, but I rushed it, and not happy how it turned out...

Can't wait to get some good pictures...

2013 Texas Mile

Last weekend was the Texas Mile in Beeville TX.

The trip there and check in went smooth:

I go to stage at 7am Saturday and let the engine warm up while I'm attaching cameras, setting up my laptop, and fortunately the guy behind me says I have smoke coming from under the hood.... Lord Jesus it's a Fire!

So back to the pits I go to assess the damage.

A few burnt wires...35 in that bundle...

Thank goodness there were lots of good folks to help me out. Stephan from Serious HP in Houston (where I do my Dyno'ing) spent hours w/me working on it. Cory from Henderson performance (Robert SSE 4 2SS's performance shop) help figure out the crank sensor wires. We ended up changing the tune to open loop as none of the O2 sensors were re-wired.

New wires being spliced in...

The car was ready to test drive right about dark. Test drive checked and I was ready for the next day. I was really fortunate Stephan and Cory were there to help...it was forecast to rain Sunday, but the weather held and was a great day (maybe a little too hot, but I wasn't complaining).

Finally it was time to race!

The morning was a little foggy, so we got a late start...

Here is the video:

I didn't get my 200 mph...the stock transmission would not shift cleanly into 5th gear. I also don't think I had the power to quite get there. Here was my best MPH:

Brakes took a beating:

My updated mod wish list:
  • transmission that will shift clean in all gears - researching
  • Nitrous - debating dry or wet shot
    • This may require a fuel system upgrade
  • 2.9 or 3.07 gears (the 3.27 may run out on me) - still debating
  • exhaust cutouts
  • R1 Concepts Drilled and Slotted Rotors
  • Hawk HPS Brake Pads

MSR Houston

Oh no...I have a new obsession. Road racing. Who knew curves could be so fun too. These damn car obsessions are getting expensive. As now I need to rethink my brake Here is some video's from my event...bad thing about road racing is you get hours of footage, so I tried to cut down as much as possible. Still over 10 min.

So as a result of the mile, I did buy a custom RPM transmission. It started as their TR6060 level 6, but then they made 5th and 6th power gears for the mile (I think they are ZR1 gears). With the new transmission, I should not have to change out my driveline anymore. 1-4 are perfect for the 1/4 with my 3.73 rear. And 2-6 are perfect for the standing mile...6th gear will run out around 210mph (I just want 200).

I've also concluded on a wet nitrous kit. Between the new trans helping me get into gear and a little boost in power, I'm hoping to finally get to 200...then i'll be done with the standing mile and only have 2 obsessions...9s 1/4 with a manual trans (which I think is going to require a new motor, so may be a while) and never get passed on a road race .

Anyway here is a video from MSR. One good thing about my 1/4 mile obsession is I was the fastest car in my group...which was nice.

Here is just one lap where I was chasing down a C7 corvette:

And then here is one my friend took from the grand stands of the C7 going off track trying to keep up ...highlight of my day (no damage done):
http://youtu.be/aJNF6t6_tag

I'll definitely be back...
