Ignition is my switch, it feeds off the 12V switch "passenger air bag" light. So no, I don't need to turn it on every time, it comes on automatically. Regarding impedance, there's not enough power consumption and or resistance added to effectively disrupt the circuit.

I have the fuse box opened and all wires run, just need to make the power connection. I went with the add-a-circuit way for power. Which fuse port do i use? I dont want it to come on when i start the car, only when i turn the detector on.

You can keep your radar detector Off, simply by using the Volume thumb wheel, to manually switch it On when needed. Hope this helps!

Ok, just checked. For your set up Cornerspeed92, you would want to tap into F18, and keep your radar detector Off, until you want to turn it On with the Volume thumb wheel. That would be best! Any Q's just hit me up. You could also plug into F4, that way it's only active when the car is On, but you decide when the device if Off/On. Again by using the Volume thumb wheel on the radar detector.

Since this comes up every so often, I figured I'd share my set-up.

I use the Gen5DIY overhead connector along with a RadarMount.com suction mount right behind the mirror. Now, I can't tell how long the suction mount will last since I tend not to trust these ball-joint based things, but I didn't feel like splurging on a mirror mount.
