painting entire car...cost?
Don't flame me, I searched and went through 174 threads and not a one of them covered this.
I'm looking to get the entire car repainted a color that wasn't offered by GM. Has there been anybody that has done it yet? I know folks have had different stripes and graphics painted, and some have done a two tone paint scheme. I'm just trying to find some people that have done the whole car and get an idea of what it cost them. I'll get it down to a few different body shops to get estimates soon, but wanted to try and find out what I might be looking at. Thanks.

Richie Collision in Tx does amazing work, they did HOK Kandy on my last Vette
5-8k for a good paint job with decent paint 8-15k for a higher end paint and very good paint job (around 5k in paint alone) Disclaimer most of your of your cost will come with prepping the car and labor to make it shine. |

I have always liked purple and I'm thinking about painting the car a dark shade of purple or doing a fade of yellow to purple front to back with graphics breaking up the transition. My color at my wedding was purple, that's how much I like it.

I wouldn't try to oversimplify what is involved in a quality paint process. there is a LOT of labor to properly prepping a vehicle. you need to think about things like the engine bay and inside of the doors and trunk etc.. there is a lot of disassembling and reassembling involved prior to the prep work even being ready.
your best bet is to talk to the pros and see what options you have. good luck and keep us updated when you do it, pics! : )

A full paint job is going to be a pretty penny without a doubt. If your budgets tight you might want to consider vinyl wrapping the vehicle. I know it sounds sketchy but it's an affordable solution that's reversible and significantly cheaper ( I think average is from $2-3,000 ) It's also guaranteed for five years and easy extremely easy to clean you just hose it down. I'm considering this option myself

$8-$10k is about right for a complete paint job... This should include R&I (Remove and Install) all the windows, Doors, Trunk, Hood and lights.

I would wrap it, once you paint it you can never go back. Even just for resale value...you never know if you have to sell it one day.

And don't listen to people talking about resale value. I hear the crap all the time that I'm NEVER going to be able to sell it... Really? That's why a local dealer ship offered me TEN THOUSAND more than I paid for it? And, I'm not going to sell it. People like that just want to piss on your parade.
My 2 cents.

1 your buyer market shrinks since it is a different color. If you find the right buyer it could bring more. In this market not as likely. 2 people get nervous on full paint jobs because of cover up of other issues. If you can make 10k over, I would sell it, buy another car and paint it again and have extra cash, less miles, and a newer car. |
