Dear GM: Why the AY6?

I have done everything I have heard of to get the issues from shifting from 1-2 at WOT throttle done away with. Ive got Amsoil Manual Tranny fluid in it, MGW shifter, IDEALG Modified master cylinder, remote reservoir with Amsoil DOT4 high temp fluid. When I first installed the new master cylinder everything seemed ok I could even powershift it with no problems. Well that was a few months ago. On the way home I stopped on a closed street for a little fun. No matter if I left the line easy or hard I could not get it to shift from 1-2 at WOT the tranny would block the gear out. I even tried shifting early at 6k and I was still blocked. I just don't know what else to do. Damn chevy for getting every about the car right except for when I want to drive my sports car like a sports car. Does any one else have any suggestions.

Well today I discovered that after I make a turn and am on a roll I can stomp on it and take it to redline and make a good 1-2 shift. BUT every time I go WOT in a straight line no matter if I spin or not the tranny will still block me out of second. I taking it to the dealer on Friday to see what they say but who knows this is getting old.

Had mine at the dealer for a week in November - demonstrated the grind to a tech, sr tech, shop foreman and a tranny specialist. Gave them the part numbers for the new carbon blockers and they they still couldn't figure it out. Guess I will wait till 2nd falls out of the tranny and have it towed in - maybe if it's actually broken they can get an idea of what the issue is.

This has to be my biggest complaint as well. I've had issues with mine from the beginning with the dealership shrugging it off as normal or as driving technique. I was hoping that all of the mods you have done would help.

I'm leaning towards the clutch... these things are anemic to say the least and they're not going to take abuse well.

That said, the internals are weak, plain and simple.

And for the techs to outright ignore it on Yellow_Glide's visit is just plain insane. Not surprising... just insane.

Gotta love GM/stealerships.

Just theoretically, if a bell housing adapter was made, how hard would it to swap a Tremec in there?

There would probably be some wiring harness issues and programming needed for the speedometer. The Tremec TR-3160 is used in the new Cadillac ATS and looks very similar to the AY6. I wonder if that is another possibility.

Looks like the tr3160 is rated for 310 ft lbs tq - and with hollow shafts and web gears - def not for high hp or boosted.

The Aisin AY6 is rated for 345 ft·lbf (468 N·m). Unless I'm reading this wrong Tremec's web site shows several variants of the 3160 with input specs as high as 425 ft·lbf (576 N·m).

Isn't this the trans that is on the 2.0 ecotec?
