I'm sure not worried about them tracking where I've been. Matter of fact, they would get so bored following me that they would beg to find someone else to track.
Is it worth the money?? Not for me. If my car is stolen, oh well, that's what my insurance is for. Now, if my insurance company gave me a heafy discount for having On-Star, I'd keep it for sure. Is the turn-by-turn worth the money they want every month? Again, not for me as my Garmin that I paid a one time fee for does this basically for free and gives me a moving map to boot. I know a lot of people use this system and it has its good points, I just don't think it's worth the money they charge for it. During the one year free service on my truck unit, I never used it. Several months after it expired it scared the sh!t out of me when I suddenly heard something, which I found out was the On-Star phone ringing and it was a sales person trying to sell me On-Star service. I just wasn't expecting that. |

I'm amazed a few people here are willing to give their frewill given to them by God to all people away to the government or anyone else not to mention to our right to privacy. Just be a good little zombie or socialist and don't complain when something happens that you don't agree with.

Psst... don't use a cellular phone. It tells way more about where, what, and when than OnStar ever could...

Hmm don't spy on the public, right, since when does government follow the laws?

personally, wouldn't be an issue with me, i'm not an axe-murderer or a wanted felon, and GM isn't a law enforcement agency, so they're not going to be writing me tickets and sending them in the mail. I can understand where people who are concerned are coming from, but i don't expect complete privacy anymore, by using technology and living in a big city, i give it up. if i wanted to go live in the forests and mountains of eastern canada and cut off contact with society, then yes.
And Onstar doesn't track you, they locate your vehicle if you press the buttons, or if law enforcement needs them to, like when your car gets stolen, or when you're a convicted axe-murderer on the run. i don't think there's a technician at OnStar sitting at a computer screen watching a moving red dot of your car all day long. Point being, your car can be tracked with onstar/Nav, your cell phone can be tracked with cell towers, your Computers can be tracked by your IP address, your home phone can be tapped, and lord knows how else. for guys who track race their cars and are altering tire pressures, i can understand how getting e-mails would become annoying when everything is actually correct. and someone correct me if i'm wrong: 1) would onstar have it's own fuse on the car? pulling that would kill it if it existed 2) installing some sort of switch or power interrupter between the vehicles power source and the power to the antenna i would expect to also deactivate onstar. Here's a good post to read: by the man, the legend, the poster extraordinaire, The_Blur. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48331

I kinda like the onstar myself. Comes in very handy in many situations. They are not sitting at a keyboard watching your every move. I don't think.

I am having my vehicle shipped to Germany. Wonder how that will mess with GM... Oh my, look, the car is crossing the ocean.
E-mail: Sir, your vehicle is sitting in a puddle, please remove from the ocean. Then it gets to Europe,... E-mail: Sir, your vehicle has vanished from the face of the earth, please contact the federation, since our satellites can only monitor planet Earth. |
