A French 99 Z28 A4 Camaro

Hi everybody,

my name's David, i'm 38 and i live in France, near Luxemburg and belgium.

I went in the USA in 1999 for my honeymoon...5000 kilometers beetween california, Arizona, Nevada and Utah in a 25 days trip...i felt in love with San Francisco and Las Vegas. I drove a 99 White 2.2 ou 2.4 Sunfire, i don't remenber, that was great...)

In France I've got a 1999 z28 Camaro, a bright red one, with ttop and Automatic transmission. 50K Miles on it. (I also got a 99 Mercedes A Class 140 and a Nissan Xtrail 2.2 DCI (diesel)

In France, with power restriction, my z28 is an european import model, with a specific single exhaust more restrictive (i think it's the european V6 3800 one), and GM said it was a 288 HP car. (305 originaly). In France, GM sold the Camaro 3800 II sport coupe and convertible , and the 5.7 z28 (not in convertible...) beetween 1998 and 2001.

I've got it in june 08 with 40K Miles, and now i've got 50k. It's almost a daily car, that's incredible in France with a 6.8 dollars per US gallon.

Mine has a K§N filter, a free ram air, and a Huge HP Tuner "tune" or "reprog" i don't know how i have to say? No speed limiter, no AIr, no EGR, optimization of the response of the Automatic gear, and a lot of great stuff. But my MPG is a little worse now. on sunny day, it's 19.5/21.5 MPG and in winter it's 15.68 MPG.

My top speed is estimated by a similar z28 in France at 168/170 Miles per hour on the GPS and 187/190 Miles per hour on the "speed indicator".

To be honest, my top speed with it was 150 Miles per hour on the speed indicator, i don't want to go to jail !! (max speed in France is 80 MPH on higway and a 150 miles Ticket = No more driving licence, no more car, and a lot of problems.)

I got a website here :

http://camaroz28.canalblog.com/

ps : if you have SLP air lid for sale, for good price with international shipping, i would be great !! On ebay, it's too expensive (200 dollars with shipping cost)

On the same way, i had a dream....a SS hood.....but in France it's impossible to find one, no SS Camaro were sold....we got to buy them in USA and import them....so a 450 $ hood become a 2000 dollars (without paint !) after the ship....

Excuse me for my poor english.

I noticed that too.
It is a different country, so I'm not really surprised by it though. Probably have different safety standards...

Anyways, that's a a beautiful car! It's great to see how far the Camaro's influence has spread.

Nice car there

In some European country the cars have to have rear fog lamps.
Also European Camaros have the Firebird seats and as mentioned before the single-exhaust from the V6.
The headlight can be adjusted in height in four positions depending on the load on the rear axle.

It's great to see someone outside of the US appreciates these cars for what they are. Very interesting details as well on this European spec Camaro.

19-21mpg is quite normal if you're talking about the US MPG. Remember the US gallon is about 3.8 liters while the UK gallon is about 4.3 liters. So it'd be great if you clarify what kind of gallons you're talking about.

Also the consequences of speeding aren't any better in the US, we just get caught less often. :P

Welcome to the site!

That's one rare car - in France - you have there, I never saw one in the 20 years I lived there (I'm French too, grew up there). Enjoy the attention

I was there last month, and they weren't aware of the camaro coming to France. Mind you, dealers are not always as knowledgeable as us privileged members of this forum

It's in a wonderfull place called the Lake of Roseland, near the Roseland Dam.
It's in France, in Savoie (Remember the 1992 Winter Olympics games of Albertville, that was in Savoie, in France)

It's a great car, but not the car for our little mountains roads. American cars (except the corvette c5 and c6) aren't appreciate in France cause their handling in europeans roads. But, it's a real pleasure to drive it for my concern.

2010 V8 Camaro is 95000 $ here, and just sold one by one by some professionnals. GM Only give us C6 and some cads. But French prefers Porsches, mercedes, audi, than Maros or stangs.

if i had more money, i would find a ss hood, 4 SS rims in 275/40.17 and a catback magnaflow. But it's real expensive here (a 400 dollars ss hood become 2200 dollars after shipping)
