You folks simply need to spend some time doing some research on lubricants. Would you buy tires without looking into it? How about a cam? Do your homework and forget the chest beating Mr. Manhood caveman mentalities.

and forget that Amsoil likes to compare their non API certified synthetic oils against API certified conventional oils in their tests. or that they claim 25000 miles.... because thats how long they can run a motor on a test stand in a clean laboratory.

you wont need to worry about transmission fluid. GM has passed that the trans fluid that they are putting into the camaor will not need changed or replaced for the life of the vehicle. (unless you swap the motor with a 1200hp LSX 454 and drive around in 2nd all day long)

+1, Dextron 6 is GM's own synthetic transmission fluid, and is required on all 06 and newer transmissions.

Additionally, GM engineers identified opportunities to improve viscosity, durability, and impact on fuel economy with a new fluid.

"The development of DEXRON®-VI is the first time an automotive company has worked so closely with petroleum and additive companies to develop a new fluid," says Roy Fewkes, driveline fluids group leader, GM Powertrain. "The result is a new fluid that significantly outperforms existing fluids in every aspect. In fact, we have had to significantly extend the length of our durability tests to fully test the fluid's capability."

Internal GM tests have demonstrated DEXRON®-VI to deliver more than twice the durability and stability in friction tests compared to existing fluids. It also has demonstrated superior performance in pitting, foaming, oxidation and shear stability tests.
On their own website, royal purple says they do not have an equivelant to Dex6, so royal purple would void your warranty. Amsoil does say their atf is dex6 compatable, but considering how much better GM's Dex6 is vs Dex3, I really don't see how much of an improvement amsoil could be, besides being able to say you have amsoil in your transmission.

I know that the m6 takes atf, and not gear oil. I do not know for sure if the newer ones are compatable with Dex6, though they should be. The older ones had blocker rings that would dissolve in synthetic fluid, so I would double check before you swap out the fluid. I wouldnt add syncromesh. If you use a high enough quality oil to begin with (like what GM puts in there), and maintain it properly, any additives you put in the fluid are a waste of money and in most cases will actually be WORSE for your transmission.

Yes, but Aunt Jemima's will gain you 30-40mpg, 10-12hp and never needs to be changed.

Personally I love the Royal Purple products. I have seen first hand what they can do, but if i think they may be reason for causing problems then I wont use them. Ill just use the GM approved brands.
+1. I personally swear by Royal Purple.

spikalicious!

So, my 2 cents is, the Corvette Forum has shown that the rp tranny will lessen the stiff bulkiness experienced with the Tremec trans.

It's the law in Corvette world. Take a tip from their learning.

The bulkiness is more noticeable in colder climate regions.

Change the fluid back to GM fluid, before returning to the dealer for warranty tranny work.

I switcher my current 4L60 over to Royal Purple 15 Qts a few years ago.
All the fluids in the AV are Purple (except mobil1 oil)
Front rear diff, powersteering, Radiator & intercooler, Transfer case...

I picked up a 5 Gallon Pail of the stuff it was cheeper that way instead of 15 Quart Bottles @ $12 ea.

15 qts in a 4l60? how deep is your trans pan? how big is your trans cooler?

you should only need 12-13 qts in a 4l60.

I used to use mobil 1 in the Durango just changed it last week to RP.

a friend of mine has an 04 (IIRC) GTO and had been using $2.00 conventional oil for the longest time. he switched to Mobil 1 and lost 7 hp across the board on the dyno. (cus he's a weirdo that goes to the dyno after every mod. new clutch.... dyno. new air filter.....dyno. new oil.... dyno. he's also pushing over 400hp to the ground with the stock cam.... but thats another story).
