If you don't mind shopping on Ebay you can probably get a good deal on one with an offer. I don't have a tune yet, so this was the next best thing in my mind. Who doesn't love having all 8 cylinders roaring all the time!

Thanks again guys for your input. I went ahead and ordered a Range, part # FBA-RA003.
Got it on Amazon for $138 with free shipping.

Would this be better than tune? I've heard mixed reviews and thought maybe a tune would be the best approach. Not sure how much it cost to tune it out.

Once you tune it out, at which events does the AFM kick back in? Like when battery dies, does it reset to default ECU?

Hi pinoyplaya, I’m new to this as well but the general consensus from members here is that a tune is the way to go. However once you buy the tuner and pay a pro to tune, you’ll be looking around $700.

I do plan to tune but I’d like to get long tube headers and high flow cats...then a tune but alas, money is a lil tight right now. So in the meantime I’m going to give this a try.

Remote tuning on here would be about half that 700 cost you noted.......

Don't waste your money on the Range IMHO. Just go ahead and remote tune the car. The L99 is an animal tuned. Dynosteve on here did mine via remote custom tune. Best money spent on the car bar none! And the gear shifts holy......

No it doesn't reset if the battery goes dead or is changed its hard flashed onto the ECM & TCM (trans) computers. I started with a Range and it did what it was suppose to for about a year but it would throw codes randomly & cause the car to fail to start. Of course you pull and wait 2 minutes and away she went. But I tired of that bullshit. The cost difference between a SCT remote custom tune and the Range is not a large amount & to me is a no brainer.

Could you pls explain exactly what a remote tune is?

My understanding is that you have to purchase a tuner.
Then state what mods if any the car has and a tuner like Dynosteve emails your custom tune, whereupon you download it through your tuning device into tne car's ECM.

Is that the process? If so, can you recommend a tuner (the device) and if you go this route can you easily revert back to the factory settings?

Sorry for the convoluted question but the more I read the more confused it get.

I guess I could return the Range (shld be here this coming week) since I purchased from amazon.

Thx for your help.

I would like to learn as well. My gut tells me that’s how it works. Would love to be able to tune back to stock for smog test and then return again after.

Might do this route if I keep my Camaro.

I purchased the SCT X4 from Dyno Steve. Had the Range AFM disabler for a couple year prior to that.

The process of updating the tune is pretty much as explained by Joecruiser.

And FYI, I live in California as well, I didn't have to return the tune back to stock for a smog check. I left it as is. Only thing I returned to stock was the cold air intake.

Thx Low Saturn for clearing that up.
Sadly, I read in the vendor forum that Dino Steve hasn’t been well.

It really woke the car up. Night and day difference on my 2011 L99. I highly recommend it.
