Vibration at 1200 RPMs

Just got the 2LT V6 auto convertable. I love it But I have found that it has a vibration when I'm running down the road at 1200 RPM around 45MPH.Anyone noticed the same problem ? Steve

I'm not a professional by any means, but it might be the engine lugging? My first guess was AFM, but then I saw that you have the V6. wish I could be more help.

My car does the same thing. I took it to the dealer to look into this. They told me since it's an auto and the transmission uses a torque converter opposed to a clutch, the RPM at that range creates shutter from the slower spinning of the torque converter. Kind of makes since, considering the torque converter is filled with fluid. Any thoughts on this?

The torque converter is a fluid coupling. You may feel some shudder when at part throttle and the trans is shifting to a higher gear. You also may notice when the converter locks and unlocks. But, if it's a constant vibration with steady throttle and no shifting - torque converter issues have a low probability of involvement.

Have a good tech duplicate it with you on a test drive, and they may be able to find better direction for diagnosis.

I just got a 1lt RS on friday and i have the same issue, as soon as I let off the gas or hit a higher rev count it stops. Im guessing this is normal?

There are multiple threads on this and i think no one has a fix or most dealers say its normal or having someone from gm come look at it to see if anything can be done.

mutiple threads on this mine does the same thing but i drive in M now when the vibration gets back i just downshift fixes it this is one of the reasons i stoped driveing in D to slove this low rpm vibration it does it right where you state right around 40 to 45 mph

i brought it to the dealer they did there tests and even sent a tech out driveing with me he felt it too and then i test drove a white 1lt rs mirror image to my car did it same spot but not as bad as mine im still waiting for gm to figure out wtf causes this

Well mine does this and I think its the shift points. I dont think my car really needs to be in sixth when going 40? When I put it in M sport mode it mostly goes away. A simple fix (well my simple mind thinks) Change the shift point to keep the car in 5th or even 4th. When I paddle shift it at 40 into 5th or 4th the vibration goes away. It does not just do it at 40 mph. Just depends on gear and speed.. I've seen this even at 50 the car is in sixth doing about 1100 rpms. Shift to 5th car is happy. Not so sure, sometimes I just take my foot off the gas and it goes away or push it to a higher RPM.

i do the same thing driveing i shift just at 2k alittle below or above on a good shift and i rarely touch 6th gear only when i hit 50 mph i switch into 6th good shift point for it

For those who have the manual trans, a thread was started and the OP kept track of everyone having the 1st to 2nd grind issue and then fired all the info to GM. Since I've personally read no less than 6 threads on the auto trans vibration issue, I would suggest that you folks with automatic transmissions create a similar thread and then blast GM. All the people having this issue with the auto trans have been told it's "normal" by the dealer. Clearly it's not. TSBs come from "out of tolerance" behavior. This seems to qualify.

Anyway, another 2 cents for the pot.

What you might want to do is get in contact with our Customer Assistance team to make sure the repair is taken care of properly. Also you may want to let your dealership know to speak with our technical department as well. They should able to help them out in getting a resolution for you. I hope that helps you.
