Oh yeah!

I forgot to mention. He did check the computer for related bulletins and we found something that really surprised me.

There was a bulletin about adding a Oil Separator to Camaro 1LEs to fix a knock issue and new 1LEs will come with them from the factory. I'm not sure why this was only for 1LE. He said it should apply to all their performance cars. I told him I already had a Moroso Oil Separator on the way.

So that's interesting.

No problem. They are real big in the Corvette world. They work on Vettes from all over the state. If your noise is not normal they wont tell you that it is. Rich races a Zo6 and they guys are certified. More than a few members have their cars serviced at Abel, ZL1's, Z28s etc.
They also do performance work as well. They are out of the way, but if you go there I doubt that you would be unsatisfied.

If you think the car needs to be on a dyno to find the problem I would take it here

Have you done a fill with 93 and performed the fuse pull to reset the car to the high octane table?

I don't have 93 here.

Though I'm very interested to hear more about the fuse pull to reset the car to the high octane table. What is that?

I'm going to guess the low octane table is to deal with the bad gas scenario? but if my car is using the low octane table, wouldn't it be less likely to knock? I'm totally guessing. Where can I get more info and procedure on the process?

Thanks!!

ALL:

I also live in the Bay Area, have a 2014 ZL1, and sometimes I hear the rattle that sounds like the super-charger problem. But since it is a 2014, it is not covered in the recall (as far as I know).

In any event, I think a Bay Area ZL1 meet up is in order. Or, you could all just join me on 4/17 at Thunderhill! Then you really can test your car.

I'd love to join you at Thunderhill! I took my 2013 GT500 there and had a blast, but I want to iron out this issue before I hit the track.

I'm down for a meet up. I've already seen there are a few of us on this forum that are in the Bay Area.

I'll see what my DashLogic says when it gets here.
I'm willing to bet it will say I'm running rich or lean and it will probably be a MAF sensor issue. *crossing fingers*
He should have had it hooked up while driving the car to "snapshot" the problem when it occurs.

Yes, you are correct. If it is already knocking, putting it in the high octane table will make it worse. And the fuse pull is overrated and does nothing that the car won't do on it's own after a tankful of good fuel is run thru.

Oh poop!

I plugged my DashLogic into the car and recorded a video.

I produce the knocking several times throughout. Each time except the last I give it some throttle and let off as soon as I see knock retard. On the last one, I hold the throttle down for 5 seconds to see if it goes away because the technician said its okay if its only there for a second and then goes away. Hmmm...

@ 0:23-0:24 you will hear a slight tick-tick if you have superhero hearing followed by the knock detection on the display.

@ 2:53 I do 80% throttle without letting up for 5 seconds and the knock sensor keeps retarding. Obviously it's not getting learned-away by the computer.

I was really hoping I was crazy but I'm not and now I'm upset because I have to deal with the BS of getting the dealership to agree its an issue and get them to fix it. I'm going to try the dealership I bought it from first, just because I bought it from them but if it doesn't go the way I want I will try another dealership recommended earlier in this thread.

Ugh ... This $#!T always happens to me.

It might just be bad gas.

Did you try different stations etc?

Throw in a can of Torco, do the fuse pull overnight and log again. If there's no tick and no KR showing up (they could be mutually exclusive issues at this point) Then you know you have a preignition issue.

If the gas just sucks there you can look at Torco or putting in colder plugs to see if that helps.

The fuse pull isn't over rated as it GUARANTEES you'll be in the high octane table.

Good luck!
