Easiest way to remove the oil pan?
Undo pan bolts, undo motor mounts, lift on engine an inch with no problems? |

I've never done it. But I assume it couldn't be much more than that.

Cut through bottom brace. Remove pan. re-weld brace?
I think this is a good question for the help desk.. lol. |

Unfortunately, that's the help desk stance as well . I was hoping someone had some kind of clever suggestion that no one else had thought of yet! I think CGT (or CFD.. always get them confused) made a replacement brace when he yanked his pan out.
You would still have to cut, but you wouldn't have to re-weld.

Here... this is roughly the point in his thread where he pulls the pan. You might have to go a page back or forward, but you get the idea...
It's CFD, not CGT. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...=280655&page=8

I disagree. He can be back on top with a little caution here.

PQ if you have access to a cherry picker this isn't so bad. Use his plate, unbolt the tranny, and pull it out the top. Just wrenching from that point. Not what you're hoping for I know, but it's not such a bad deal. A solid weekend making sure everything is ok, and replacing what needs replaced and you'll sleep sooooo much better in the long run.

I haven't looked specifically at the 5th Gen Camaro but we just did this to my '69 about a month ago. Maybe it will work on the 5th Gen.
-Put the car in the air -Undo cat-back from headers -used a jack with a small piece of wood under the oil pan to help lift motor -undo motor mounts -jack up motor as high as you can before transmission hits tunnel or headers hit -put a small block of wood in between the motor mount and engine -lower the motor back onto the piece of wood you put on the motor mount That gave us about 2" or so to work with. It wasn't fun but it worked. There was just enough room to get the pan out and back in. Took a little cussing and extra sweat but we got it. My dad used to do this all day long back in the day but that was back we used the smaller Muncie 4-speed. Now the Tremec 5-speed takes up all the room in the transmission tunnel. In my case my dip stick got turned some and tangled up in my rotating assembly. It ate up about 6" of the stick and left about 4 pieces of metal and no telling how many shavings I couldn't see.
