Reverse camera on switch

Is it possible to wire in my reverse camera to a switch. I have a 2013 camaro v6 automatic that I converted to V8 manual. I got the reverse lights to work but the reverse camera will not work. From the looks of the schematic it should come on when the reverse lights are turned on. Any help is appreciated!

Do you have a factory camera or an aftermarket one? I am curious about this one myself to just have the camera always on. If you can tap the power wire, you can insert a switch to have the camera always powered on.

I think the factory camera may rely on more than the reverse light providing power to turn it on since the lines turning with the steering wheel comes from the body control module. It may rely on other signals from the transmission to activate, but I don't know that.

If aftermarket, it should work with any 12v feed to power the camera and the display/head unit.

I'd like the camera on especially for lane changes.

My car is equipped from the factory with the reverse camera and mylink radio. It seems like the radio is also looking for the reverse signal from the instrument cluster or something. I hate how difficult they made an easy system.

It relys on the TCM to command the bcm to switch the radio to the camera.

Personally, I'd do an aftermarket reverse camera and radio setup to just bypass the issue. My '11 didn't come with a backup so I added one when I changed my head unit.

^^^This is my suggestion. The dash kits have come down in price and you can get an inexpensive radio with camera function and a cheap Amazon camera and you’ll be good to go. If you get the right radio you can even switch the camera on when not in reverse.

Not impossible. A GM tech friend figured it out and does it on lots of cars for $150 parts and labor.

Not impossible at all. I have 4 cameras in my 2011 L99 including a reverse camera. I can bring any of them up on the MyLink with a push of the button. Looking at the reverse camera when driving forward tends to make me dizzy though lol

Sorry this is an old post, I'd love to know how you did this.... I have a 2011 L99 that I added mylink to and would like to add a front camera.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
