Enclosed Trailer for a ZL1 1LE

Hello,

I'm interested in getting an enclosed trailer for my ZL1 1LE. There have been enough times where I wished I had one that I'm seriously considering it. Plus, in the winter the ZL1 1LE occupies my garage bay so my daily driver gets buried in the snow. I think the trailer can serve double duty both as a way to take the car from track to track and a great place to store it in the winter months.

Since I know lots of you guys have already been down this road, I'd appreciate any links, photos, and advice you have. I already know a must for me is that side door which allows you to open the car door for easy exit and entry. I'm unclear if there is clearance for the trailer tires on all models which have that feature so any feedback there would be especially useful.

Personally I want the smallest and lightest enclosed trailer possible. It would be nice to have enough room for a spare set of tires, a small tool chest, and a floor jack but not much else. I don't need all the built-ins and stereos and such I've seen. This is totally utilitarian.

Anyway I thank you and I'm sure all the other forum members who will search this topic in the future thank you as well.

Best size is 24'. Leaves space for some tires and other track equipment. I've had mine 25 years and have been everywhere with it. My 5th gen fit fine not so sure with the ZL1LE, will be a tight fit. About 2" to spare between the wheel boxes. Always good to have a spotter to get it in. Also have driver side escape door to get out.

Agreed, 24' is really minimum size if you want tires, tools, etc. in the trailer and not in the bed of your truck. ZL1 1LE fits better than my Z/28 did. Side door is really needed, unless you plan to winch the car in.

A few picks attached.

Oh, and a pit bike is nice for the big tracks!

I agree that a 24' is the best for these cars, mine is a Titan. Easy loading and enough room to move the car for perfect balancing for the correct tongue weight and I put a portable AC in mine and man its nice in the Summer to get out of the heat for a few minutes or if it rains. Short is not good and puts the car right in the middle of the side door that you'll have to maneuver around. That's not good either.

Bud - how close does the car door come to hitting the trailer tires when you open that side door?

2010REDSS - That trailer is awesome looking. Why do you have Race ramps? Do you need to use them even with the drive up door?

My 5th gen cleared by an inch. Enough to just make it out the door.
My buddy purchased on last summer with the full size opening above the wheels and the wheel box is removable.
Place in Torrington is where he got it.

I had the trailer built with extra low wheel wells to help me clear the threshold with the driver's door. As a result, the floor of the trailer is a bit taller than stock, so the Race Ramps are necessary. I'm guessing that you might need them on even a standard height trailer....maybe others can chime in??

Really nice interior. I finished mine myself and it was a challenge. Didn't turn out as good as yours. I do need to get some cabinets in mine this spring.

Ours is a pretty 'standard' 8.5 x 24 and I can get the ZL1 in/out without any real drama on the ramp. Here it is with our track Miata:

Definitely a tight fit... didn't have the ZL1 in mind when we bought it. I'll be winching for at least part of the run since we don't have the escape door, and I'm not even going to try climbing in/out through Camaro windows!

I really like your cabinet setup. I ordered ours with just the top cabinets, as I wanted to do something custom with the lowers, but here I am three years later and still not finished...

Do you still have room for the bike with the Camaro loaded? I don't think I could fit my full size bike...
