You can probably rent a cracker box car for about $35 for a whole day to practice on. Or PM ssmike. He's close by and sold his Camaro SS M6 last year. He's probably dying for a chance to go out and have some fun.

You don't need a driving class. Take it to an empty parking lot or area with hills and practice. The hardest part is moving from a dead stop on an incline, especially when you have someone behind you. Practice this in an area with nothing around and you'll be fine.

The only thing worse about learning a manual on hills would be learning a manual with HSA on hills

Agreed and that's how I usually teach people. find a big clear parking lot.

OP, one thing to watch out for is Hill Assist, if you stop on an incline and it activates. When you take your foot off the brake, I count to 5 before the brakes are released. So, you have to think about it, or you can stall your car. You can also use the parking brake also, but again you have to think about it.

Saying that, these cars are a lot easier to learn on than the '58 Vette, 3 speed on the column, that I learned on. Congrats and enjoy your ride, and your not crazy!

I think it's odd that even though the OP just bought a $40,000 car so many here are insistent that he should not spend $50 to learn how to drive it. Even if it just makes him more comfortable I say it's well worth it, let alone considering wear and tear on the car.

Yup I couldn't agree more. If it makes the OP comfortable it's money well spent.

My thoughts exactly. It would be awful if he wrecked his new car because he didn't know how to shift. Spend the money and the time to learn before you risk your new Camaro.

You can learn in half an hour no problem. The real question is if you went to all that trouble to get a manual, why did you not get a 1LE?

I have never owned a manual til I bought my Camaro. I have driven dirtbikes, fourwheelers and a few other things with clutches but never really a car. I would gladly pay 50 bucks to drive something different and gain the knowledge to drive a stick. If you have ever driven a dirtbike or a fourwheeler with a clutch then yeah I think your kind of wasting your time. I have driven a few other jeeps and cars with clutches and I think the Camaro's clutch is kind of a bitch, at the least instant where it grabs it kicks out or at least it does when its new. I hated that and I stalled when I test drove the first time at the dealer, but ever since I don't have any problems and have only smelled the burning smell once bc I was on a very steep slope and a person was almost on my bumper.
