(which I would think wouldn't be a good thing)
Well, there are 2 cleaning methods being discussed here.

1.- typical induction service is done by running chemicals thru you're engine, while the engine is running to clean the intake valves. (its ok, but depending on you're mileage it might clean some of the gunk but not all of it.

2.- The most effective way of cleaning all the gunk is so sand bast it with walnut shells. This is a method that is used by BMW for their cars, you can actually go to a BMW dealer and they will do this for you, they even have a special tool design to do this, they been doing this cleaning to BMW's and Mini cooper's. BMW does charge 800 to 1000 dollars for this service, but no other method will clean the intake valves like this.

Today is the first day i used my camaro with a Catch can, im right at 23k miles, and ill probably do the Walnut Shell blasting as soon as i have some time off.

Thanks for that info christianmotox.

I'm hoping my valves are pretty clean considering I have low mileage and a catch can, but it sounds like the best (at at least, cheapest and most preventative) thing may be running a CC as early as possible, and then perhaps having the dealer to the upper cleaning service once every 2 - 4 years depending on the mileage you put on the car since it only costs a couple hundred versus a grand.

I think we will know forsure when we see an example or two of the valves on these cars that have been running catch cans.

that's right, i know mine are really dirty because i inspected them when i installed my Iceolator.

Also, this is a general issue with most DI motors.

BG is about the best upper induction cleaner, seafoam is OK as well. But to clarify, the V8 cars & light trucks are still port injection so these fuel additives do keep valves and ports clean as shown below. Keep in mind this is the LY7 V6 non DI, but is the same motor as the LLT DI. This picture is 140,000 miles running top tier fuels and the occaissonal additive to the fuel tank:

Now look at the picture of the same 3.6L but the DI version where NO fuel passes the intake valves and intake port at 16K miles:

And the same miles with a RX catchcan installed at 6K miles:

Most techs have not been trained on the effects of the oil ingestion, but yours OP understands a ton...just not the difference between the port inj motors and the DI motors as far as top tier fuels and additives.

Does anyone happen to have the OTC part number for the tool necessary to use the BG cleaner? Also, where exactly is the nozzle placed?

Finally able to post the photo of my intake valves the I took while installing my ported intake manifold over the weekend. I had 13K miles on my engine before I installed my RX Catch Can.

It didn't look to bad, not enough for me to worry about getting them cleaned. Very hard to see down in there. I took over 30 photo's to get 3 so/so ones.

Cant you just unhook your intake hose and spray some BBK or Seafoam directly into the throttle body to clean the intake and valves. Yep I woud think spraying a whole can in there would give it a good cleaning.

Seems like DI is not such a good design after all. More Maint.

You have to weigh the pros and cons. Remember we're getting 29 MPG HWY and 323HP. Without DI that would not be possible.

And it would be impossible to run regular unleaded gasoline in an engine with 11.3:1 compression!
