Tinted down to 20%... still hot?
Just wondering if its normal? Rear and sides were done, nothing in front. I really don't notice much of a difference heat wise. Granted I live in Houston where it's been 95-100 degrees here lately. Got it done at Executive Tint in Houston.
I think the brand they used is called Night Chrome? He even showed me a demo where I could notice the difference... I figure if I call them up they're just gonna say its so hot outside, etc.. For those who might say its under the legal limit, I have a medical exemption. |

Not all tint rejects heat, no matter how dark. You have to get specific heat rejecting tint if that's what you're going for. If you paid less than about $300, you probably got regular tint.

Tint helps the surface temps in the car somewhat, but doesnt do much for the air temp that I've found. The top of the car still gets baked by the sun regardless. Depending on how long it sits in the sun the car will still get up to the same temps, just may take a bit longer to get there.

Okay, yeah unfortunately it is out in the sun a lot of the time. At least I dont have to worry about getting sunburned when I'm in it. Paid $225 for it. I could have sworn though that the sample he gave me did block the heat. Then again, jztako has a good point.

Damn, 5% isn't legal anywhere, is it? That's like limo tint. Just spray paint your windows black.

My sig picture is 20%...you can also go to my album and see some other pics to get a better idea of 20% tint
I didn't get rid of the heat till I had my windshield tinted...I don't have any pics of the car since the windshield was done, but this made it considerably cooler when driving. I hardly ever have my A|C turned up above the first notch on the blower except to cool down the car when I just get in it.

Window tint will not help keep the heat out unless you get mirror tint, window tint will stop UV rays from coming into your car and damaging your interior.
Think of window tint that is black 2 ways, first it can slow down the heating of the car a little due to the fact that less light is getting in your car and will make it easier on you when you are in your car with the AC on, BUT if you are leaving your car outside the glass, and everything else on your car will heat up and make your car hot. Also window tint is Black black is a color that absorbs all light and does not reflect anything, so your glass and the tint will absorb the suns rays unless you get mirror tint that will reflect the suns rays. Why do you think glass skyscrapers are reflective glass on them, to reduce the suns rays that get into the building and heat it up. I have been installing window tint for years, 2 reasons to get tint, 1 to not have people see you in your car and 2nd is to get UV protection for your interior. It does very minimal for heat rejection, if your car sits out all day, but will help when you are in the car driving with the AC on.

Question for Peter. Is there a way to have just a layer to polarized film applied to your windshield to reduce glare but not visibility?

I have 5% and at first it seemed super dark but i guess i'm just used to it now. I'm in South Fla and it does help a lil bit with the heat.

No tint will literally keep "heat" out of your car because of thermal dynamics. If you park your car in a covered parking garage (no sun) that is open to the outside air, in 120 degree weather - the car will still warm up to 120 degrees, albeit much more slowly. The heat from outside eventually transfers through the material of your car (body panels to interior panels) and warms up the inside air in the car. That hot air eventually will transfer heat to the surfaces in the car. No tint can prevent that. Tint just protects from the sun rapidly heating up surfaces inside the car since UV can pass through glass and heat up everything in your car way past outside is temps.
