It is an 03 core, got a great deal on a fully built trans but had slipping clutches. So its an easy rebuild. I have nothing else yet lol. Still trying to decide on full manual vb or a control unit

If going w a 4l80 go auto VB. If u wanted manual you could've gone w a 400. There is hardly any MPG w the overdrive on the 4L so the only advantage is full auto

You can make it full manual by just jumping the harness.

Agreed! Go full auto and don't deal with full line pressure shifts just cruising around... it gets old

Also on the late core you will have to use the bfh to get some clearance for that rear cooler line( I think)..

Very little progress, but I'm ordering my circle D 3800-4k stall today. Driveshaft coming today, trans is being built. Few more things to get. Still trying to decide if I'm going with the EZ TCU or not. I'm thinking yea.

Got it out yesterday, wasnt too bad. The driveshaft bolts are tight as heck btw. Who i the world thought it was a good idea to not seperate the bellhousing from the trans? The pilot shaft kept hanging on the pressure plate. Already not too much room. The hardest (frustrating) part is getting to the top bellhousing bolts, just drop the crossmemeber with a jack under the trans, let the rear of the trans down and use a long extension to get to the bolts. The trans cooler linesand clutch/brake fluid lines have those little clips, i used a little flat head and popped em out easily.

Good luck.
So far I have a 4l80, and a triple disc stall, and driveshaft. I got the trans for $450 and it's being built by a guy i know. So I'm saving money there. Got the drive shaft for $500 on this site. But the converter I got new. Doing all my own work too. I'm looking at spending 2500-3k is my goal. And selling my used stuff for about that. Trying to do this with about 500 out of pocket.

How is it going?
Are you going to run a full manual valve body, stand alone controller with paddles or just plain 4 speed auto?

Auto with a TCU. My trans is ready for pick up tomorrow. And I have pretty much everything I need to start going back together. Hopefully I get a good start on sat.
