Key fob update

ordered the new (empty) fob on Amazon - had the switchblade key cut at dealership (was actually cheaper than locksmith, imagine that), had to annihilate my old fob in order to transfer the electronics, but in the transfer, the replacement one (with the same guts from the old one) does not work - any suggestions? Key works, but i get a 'Clear theft deterrent system' on my dic..... when trying to program..

Why order a empty fob with no electronics when you can order one with the electronics for $12?

Anyway, have you tried using your spare to start the car? Using the spare original fob should clear the message and allow you to program. If that doesn't work, you may have ruined the electronics when switching them over and will have to get another key.

I thought the one i got had electronics.. it basically came empty with a blank flip out. didnt realize it until i had one in each hand and noticed how much lighter it was. the one you got HAS the electronics, correct? what about the key part?

My brother did the same thing as you with his Yukon. Ordered an empty case for his because the ring broke off. After putting in his electronics the rear hatch would open anytime something bumped the fob or you ran your finger over the button. It's possible that the new case isn't quite right and is causing an issue with the circuits.

If it was just an empty case you shouldn't have to program the key again.

The key in the 'empty' case is already cut. I ordered a new fob/case, and that will need programming. Ill just swap the cut key with the blank. Just need to find the post that I can order those pins from...

I guess I'm not understanding. In the first post you said you annihilated your existing fob with the broken key to install the electronics in the case. Now you are saying you have one that has the electronics in it.

Your dealership will have pins, as will a locksmith.

It’s $45 or $55, forget which, for a brand new fob with key cut at a gm dealer. You made this way to hard.

my dealership quoted me well over $100 - as stated in earlier posts, I thought the one I bought had the electronics, did not realize it until I discovered the weight difference after getting the key cut. So, i took my original apart, and attempted to swap the insides into the empty one, that didnt work. NOW, I found one on Ebay, which has the electronics, and when I get that one, I will exchange the key. not hard to follow.

I ordered one for $20 and cut the key for $10 and used my current one to program it

then that's your fault for only going to one dealer and not confirming the part number. Not hard to follow

just didnt feel like calling 17 dealers, when the closest one is less than 10 miles away. My fault for not reading the description on Amazon - all good now, got one with electronics. No just swap the key. done.
