Clunking and jumping driveshaft

Hi,

when letting out on the clutch I hear the driveshaft jumping and clunking.

I can hear it very well when accelerating in 1st gear.
When I have it in first gear an I go to push in the clutch it sounds like the trans is in a bind you can hear it and feel it very we'll.

Who has the same problem and knows a solution?

Would a 1 piece driveshaft solve the problem?

One piece would cut down some. That is how all out 6 speed Camaro's are. Sounds like the dang transmission is ready to fall out. Got to stiffer motor mounts and stiffer transmission mount would help also. I know MTI in Georgia makes a better transmission mount.

have you gotten under it and made sure all the bolts are tight? silly question but I had to ask. its very possible for them to come loose. Mine was doing a rattle sound for the longest that I thought was the bearing. I just got a replacement DS from a forum member and after I got everything off I found out there was a loose bold and nut where the DS met the trans. Tightened and no more issue.

yes like ^ said, bolts have been known to come loose and even bend and break. a single would eliminate this issue for good.

It's very normal. You have to adjust when you disengage the clutch. These cars are common that way, from releasing the driveline windup suddenly.

MST, I would highly recommend not driving the car until you can get under it and inspect the bolts. Bare in mind the bolts are a one time use item.

Having the shaft break loose while driving could cause substantial damage...

Get the rear wheels off the ground with the front wheels safely chocked and with the parking brake off and the trans in neutral, shake the driveshaft to check the carrier bearing and then carefully inspect the bolts at either end. I would recommend getting replacement bolts in hand and replacing all of them at the same time just to be safe...

Regardless of what you find, a one piece driveshaft will greatly remove the chance of this happening again.... Bolts can be a problem at any point but since I went with my one piece driveshaft, I've not had any issues...

My dealer checked all the bolts and the differential as well.

Everything is OK!
They said, that problems like mine are normal!

So, I think I have to consider to get a 1-piece-driveshaft to get rid of this.

Mine has always done it, it's normal, my co-workers GTO does the same thing.

It's a bit annoying but i've just learned to push the clutch in before letting the shaft get a load on it.

My dodge ram had the same noise shifting from reverse to park even.

Many more years ago than I care to remember, I had a '62 Impala SS 409. This had he 2 piece shaft. Periodically the carrier bearing would go and I would get the noise you describe. Replace he carrier, no noise.
