Too critical?
Happy owner of a used 2015 Camaro SS convertible (our first). Anyhow, one stipulation was fixing a back seat bottom that was soaked in what appeared to be salad dressing.
Anyhow, picked up yesterday and told it would take awhile for the leather to conform to the seat due to new cushion and leather out of the box. They also applied a lifetime leather treatment that doesn't look awesome in the light. Newbie here and already gotten fantastic ideas searching through the threads. Am I being too critical....will the leather shrink wrap suddenly with warmer weather? Just not a lot of experience with leather seats. Appreciate expert opinions form the long time owners! |

Its your car, you can never be to critical. If you want your car a certain way and or want to change something, do as you wish.

IMO from what I can see in the pics, no you're not being to critical. The leather should not be that loose or have any waves/wrinkles in it...if done right, it should tightly conform to the seats. Also, in your last picture, is that discoloration in the leather from the treatment or the lighting making it looks that way? When I bought mine, I opted for the life-time interior protection; my seats didn't look like that after they were treated (you couldn't tell anything had been done).

IMO it needs some addddditional work. (Yes, the typo is for emphasis.) The leather should be smooth, and the application of the leather treatment appears streaked--as though it wasn't applied evenly to all surfaces. JMHO GL

It should tighten up once the warmer weather gets here. Let it bake in the sun with the top up and windows closed. I have a 1SS and installed factory leather seat covers two winters ago. The covers didn't tighten up until early summer. Now they look perfect. A word of caution, do not try to speed the process with a heat gun. There's enough synthetic content in the seat covers that a heat gun can actually melt them. Don't ask me how I know.

To me in the bottom of the first picture it looks like you have a seam that is already breaking. Maybe it's just the picture. However, to answer your question, no I don't think you're being too critical. You expect something to be done right, not good enough.

Looks like crap and they're full of it. It's the tightest when initially installed. It doesn't "shrink to fit the seat".

Upon further review of the OP's photos is appears that the cover is being pulled in an odd way. It could be that the installer attached some of the hog rings in the wrong locations. Have them pull the seat out again and first see if they can manipulate it so it fits better. If that fails they may need to remove and reinstall the cover properly. I find it hard to believe that they screwed the job up as it's pretty simple work but you never know what kind of careless boob works on you car when it's at the dealer. |
