Cammed l99 rpm issues
I have a 2010 ss camaro with the l99 auto. Recently had a btr stage 2 cam installed with a circle d triple disc 2800-3000 stall convertor. Also had heads port and polished. Doesnt do this all the time but every once in a while the car will stall out when putting it in drive. Also does the same when putting it in reverse. Seems to do it alot more in reverse. Doesnt do it when applying throttle tho. The car also surges when decelerating. Anybody have any ideas on what might be causing this? A buddy said to check rpm idle, but it idles around 750 to 850 or so. Also the rpms are never steady. They are always bouncing up and down constantly at all speeds. Is this normal in a cammed car? Retune? Vaccume leak? Any help is greatly appreciated thanks in advance

The surging might be the lock up converter which you can have tuned out of all the gears you want to. I have mine set to not lock up until 5th and 6th. As for the other issues that you talk about are all tuning issues that need to be addressed by your tuner.

My SS3 VVT cam with 36-3800 stall surges occasionally after a warm start until first throttle application. GPI tuner (Ben) couldn't work that out but not really a big deal. Mine is set to idle at about 850 rpms once warm. Never experienced it stalling out. Mine bucks a little when decelerating from 40 to 20 mph or so, but that's normal. RPMs always steady once warm. It sounds like your problems can probably be tuned out mostly.

Cam Motion cam and 3200 Circle D stall. Have some surging at 1000rpm...but never stalled.

Tuning issues... driveability takes lots of time to really get perfect. Some are more sensitive than others.

^^^ This, it is all in the tune, and as cammer said, sometimes it takes a bit of time to work out the "driveability" on the dyno, so the driving on the street will be clean and smooth. My Camaro drives like a dream with the big cam and stall, never had any issues with stalling and bucking no matter how fast or slow I'm going. Sounds like a converter lockup/unlock timing issue. Good luck.

Definitely sounds like a tune issue to me, especially the stalling out part. I have a BTR stage 2 cam and while I’m still running a stock converter, it doesn’t want to die on me. It will buck a little <5mph, but that’s partially the stall and I think partially the tune on mine. I’d go back and have them retune yours for sure.
