Obama asks GM CEO to step down in order to get further aid. He acquiesces

Rick Wagoner falls on his sword:

So many of you make so much sense. Wagoner was the scape goat and it looks like Fritz will now be taking over his job. Just a PR trick to put new face on the company. It scares me what government could do to GM, hell Obama said jump and Wagoner said how high and he did. This what happens when you take government money (or should I say tax payer money), let costs get out of control! Then take federal aid, stupid! I hope for GM's sake and GM's product portfolio sake they get from under the government and fix their own problems. Rick wasn't perfect but he didn't do to bad a job, plus I always liked him. I hate to say it the liberal crowd currently running the auto task force along with Obama will be coming after cars like the G8, Camaro, CTS, Corvette and Solstice next if they take another "power grab" like this. If Obama kicked Wagoner out, I fear for their "fun products line" especially RWD and V8's. So I might be getting a Camaro SS sooner rather than later.

Exactly... Look at how well goverment has been run by both parties and they think they will do a "better" job of running GM, hell they would have just run them into the ground faster. I hope GM has the guts to tell them to stick it!

Of course he was a scapegoat. But on that same defense, Wagoner makes decisions about people that make decisions about people that...you get the point. The decisions he makes affect everything. It's not his fault he was passed a company that people have little trust in, but he did very little to try and fix it.
Have you seen GM's commercials? Their truck commercials are Howie Long making fun of other people. "Let's make fun of the 'Man Step' because we can't use it!" "Let's make fun of other trucks for not having a V8!" And don't even get me started on trying to compare a Pontiac to a BMW...and having the nerve to say it's better because it's a little faster and gets 1 mpg better. People who buy BMW's would never consider a Pontiac.
Something has to change at GM. Wagoner is just the tip of the mountain, but the impending avalanche will change everything; hopefully for the better. GM may make good cars now, but they don't know how to market them and they definitely don't know how to shake the conception of them being unreliable for their lazy and uninspired workmanship in the past.
First, good to have you back, Stout, you bad boy! But gee, faster, and better gas mileage....sounds like two major selling points to me, not you? And take a look at BMW's repair stats.
But that's irrelevant to this discussion. Sure the CEO, head of the company or corporation, is always ultimately the source of blame, as is the baseball manager, football coach, etc., which may or may not be true. What's important and troubling here is that this is government mandated. It only serves to reinforce the fact that those of us believing in the Founding Fathers' form of government have a very tough road ahead of us.

This thread is way off topic. We don't allow any political debate or satire here.

I've left the OP for reference but deleted everything else.

We may open it in a couple days.

DO NOT start any other threads on this topic.

Gooood news!! He should have been given the boot long ago. 8 years of pounding this company into the dirt. Time for a radical change.

True, but those regulations apply to all car manufacturers, not solely GM. How are some able to able to comply, and have reasonable profitability, while GM couldn't. A management problem, maybe?

GM CEO to step down

Rick Wagoner is stepping down effective immediately. At least the Camaro made it to production. Thank-you Rick.

OK, Stay on topic.

This is about Wagoner retiring. Keep the political commentary and debate out of the conversation. And anything else that is unrelated.

Thumbs down GM CEO resigns at Obama's behest

Lets see how long before no more V8?

The Obama administration asked Rick Wagoner, the chairman and CEO of General Motors, to step down and he agreed, a White House official said.

Her is the link.

Obama forces Wagoner out as GM CEO

Not sure if anyone has heard yet but it looks like the age of socialism is here(?) To do this and not be able to do anything with AIG is very disturbing.

I for one certainly hope that GM itself, our orders and the return of the Camaro aren't going to fall claim to the "new" era.

Below is the link to the article of the GM CEO Rick Wagoner stepping down from office as per request of the president.

http://www.freep.com/article/2009032...career+is+over

I still sit in disbelief and in fear of what "Obama's plan" will effect.
