2010 LS LLT Concern
Hey everyone,
Last week, there was a real heavy rain/hail storm where I live and I was driving minding my own business. The next day, my Camaro starts to feel sluggish at times. I didn't have the power that I was used to and I could hear a really deep tone coming from my Injen CAI. Then the sluggishness would stop and I would have my regular power back. This has been happening the past week on and off. I've been getting a CEL and I figured out it has been my gas cap not sealing properly but I still get it every now and then. This just started to happen and I've never had an issue with this car. Here's some info about the car: 2010 Camaro LS LLT, automatic, 1255xx km/779xx miles, injen short ram cai (brand new filter), no other mods done to engine. Needs an oil change, still has stock spark plugs. I don't know if it's bad fuel or if I need injector cleaner or fuel stabilizer. Let me know what you guys think, I'm having a hard time thinking what the problem is. (Praying it's not the timing chain) Thanks guys!

These direct inject motors it is pretty important to keep the injectors cleaned regularly. I would start there and see what happens. Also look into cleaning the MAF sensor. Good luck!

Don't the injen intakes slurp up water if your not careful? I'd check the MAF sensor clean it up and see how wet the inside of the intake is.

He said that he has the short ram intake which is the one that is at the top of the car
behind the headlight so it could not have sucked any water in. I would get the code read from the check engine light and go from there.

Thanks for your input guys! I didn't even think of the MAF. Today I went to get an oil change and went to my local auto store and picked up some MAF cleaner and cleaned it up all nice and it was running really good, no CEL or anything. Driving home went well. Parked for a couple hours then went out again. It was running good until I stopped at a light. Light turned green and it happened again, sudden loss of power, deep tone from the cai but no CEL. It feels like it is struggling or its starving for something. I will try cleaning the MAF again

This is the CEL code. P0017 is associated with stretched timing chain :( It has never been changed and I'm kind of surprised that it lasted this long.

Bummer dude- get down to the dealer, receipts in hand if you've been changing your own oil- and tell him you know about the timing chain "problem". And put the stock air filter back on if it's available.
If you run into a wall, involve the customer service reps you can find here online. They are some stand-up guys and gals! |

How common is a stretched timing chain on a LLT? Is there any kind of valve or cam phaser adjustment?

Timing chain issue was mostly relegated to 2010 and early production 2011's i'm sure a few snuck thru after.

I had the timing chains replaced on mine and the dealership had it done in a day with no problems
