Depends on the piston. Can the piston hold that amount of power? On my dss pistons they can take up too like 1500hp but only 800hp without the wrist pin upgrade.

It'll be a forged rotating assembly. Either wiseco or diamond pistons with k1 rods and crank. I think for the little added cost, it's cheap insurance.

Yea, back in the day when we did a big engine build with forged pistons, rods and crank, we also updated the wrist pins just for good measure. That way everything has been updated, and should all be good to go. Didn't want to get it all together and for whatever reason, have a wrist pin fail, that would just plain suck after all that work. Good insurance.

But are you going to make over 800hp is the question? Tom over at dss told me that over 800hp it would be a good idea to upgrade the pin. So I'm thinking it could handle a little more considering even if you did make over 800hp it would be ok because how often are you going to use your engine to it's true potential anyways? So, if you know you are going to go over 800hp then I would say yeah it might be a good idea to upgrade the pin I just don't see the need for mine because even with a pro charger I'm still only going to make right around 800hp anyways. I guess it's just depending on what you're shooting for

I talked to my machinist, and he told me they always go higher on the hp numbers that are advertised on the wrist pins. He said as much as 600 hp more in some applications like a wiseco pistons. And after comparing my DSS FX pistons to the wiseco piston the wrist pin is much beefier on the dss piston that where the owner of dss told me it would be a good idea to do a wrist pin upgrade at 800 hp. He said with my pistons he doesn't think I would even need an upgraded wrist pin until like 1500 hp but that is just a visual assumption though based on the thickness of the two pins compared. So, I think you'd be fine with a standard pin on a wiseco or a dss piston for sure with 850 hp.
