l99 engine upgrades
Evening guys. So I'm currently having my engine rebuilt at a secret little shop around here in Austin where all the engines this guy builds are LS's. He's been around for a long time and has a good reputation and he works by himself and is always busy, usually takes 6-7 weeks to do an engine but he's definitely worth the wait. I have all my parts pretty much picked out except I was wondering what you guys use for a l99 timing chain and gears as an upgrade? Is it the same chain as a ls3? Do I need to buy a new cam phaser to get the correct cam gear? Thanks

I used stock LSA parts, compared it to Cloyes and Katech. I liked the stock chain better! That is what I have put intio my 427ci build. You do not need the phaser if you are not going to use it, a standard gear will do.

I saw that you had issues with piston to intake valve clearance. Any chance you took pictures? I was wondering if it was piston notch clearance or if you cam was off.
Hope you post pics of the new engine and install! Thanks, Vic |

My tuning shop has a picture, I'll try and get it from him and I think I might start a build thread.

Used stock replacements on mine for both cam swaps.
