need advice from manual v6 owners

i bought a 2lt camaro about 2 weeks ago and i and having a problem with gas economy. the sticker says that the car will get around 17 city, and 23 combined city and highway, but i cant get higher than 14 city and 18 combined. i mean the first week i owned the car i was driving it like an excited 12 year old boy, but this past week i have been driving it like a grandpa and i just needed advice on when to shift and at what rpm or anything. i guess my main question is how do you drive your camaro and what kind of gas do you get.

Smart Gear use

Listen to the engine, figure out when to skip a few gears or start in 2. Do not frag the clutch .. My father always said brakes are cheaper than gas or transmissions.

Give it time. I just now hit 2000 miles. Minus the first tank I've been averaging 21 combined. I do alot of highway driving and can consistently get 27 to 32 mpg. In the city i stay about 17-19.

Like Lbness said, listen to the engine. When not accelerating I try to keep the RPMs around 2000. Sometimes I'll skip from 2 to 4 to 6 if the RPMs and speed are high enough.

Welcome to the site I had the same problem. Drove it like a prius and only averaged a whopping 14mpg. I was pretty bummed out by it to be honest, especially because the SS guys were getting better gas milage with even less miles on it. ANyways, i started driving her hard, and i mean HARD and the mpg began to increase. The v6 just needs to be get more miles under that hood and drive it HARD. Trust me, try it out and let us know how it works for you. Worked for me but i also put on alot of miles doing so anyways try it out. Good Luck
Oh i use 87 octane.
I was getting 14mpg and now get 14L/100km which i think is about 17mpg or so combined.

Accelerate moderately and when coasting try to keep it under 2000rpm's. In my CTS with the 3.6 6speed I could get 17mpg with mostly city and 22+ with highway, and that was while driving "spirited".

Depends on how hard you accelerate and what RPM you shift. In my regular driving, I shift between 2000 & 3000 RPM''s and I'm giving it maybe 1/4 throttle. That gets me 23 MPG with about 50/50 city/highway. Welcome to this awesome site.
