Mac, you're saying you just failed as in you went to get smogged and they didn't pass you? If this is the case, YELP THEIR ASS! Make sure you tell the world that they're not muscle car friendly so they get a bad rep! Screw them!!!!!

You know for the longest time I was against using Yelp for bad reviewing purposes, but after so many years of getting screwed even after being nice to people and trying to bend over backwards to go above and beyond for people only to get screwed even harder, I've given up on being a nice guy to people now of days.

I know this sounds bad and some people believe in that Karma crap and others believe in the laws of attraction crap, but I simply believe in "luck of the draw"..........I really hope I'm reading your reply wrong because that's really shitty.
The shop guy is pretty cool. Issue is bar just busted them a month ago over similar situation. Cant blame the guy based on bars fines. He said everything else is good. I will find out tomorrow. Just put on JBA headers and going back in tomorrow.

BTW if you are in Brentwood area Brentwood mufflers rocks. The put on my shortie headers for 380. Not bad if you take into account In running a edelbrock supercharger and the have to come out the bottom. Gut spent most of the day changing out doug thorleys for JBA's

Thanks for the tip! BTW, did you have / notice any gains from adding the JBA shorties?

All passed with smog. Glad that is over for another 2 years. The good part is smog does not detect custom tune. On performance not sure yet. I really do not expect much difference between the doug thorleys or JBA's but will see.

i find it kind of hilarious that you can put on a supercharger but not a cai.

You can also go crazy with any 78 and older(i believe) cars as much as you want, no smog.

Ya, seems odd..I believe the CAI is because the V8 Camaro stock intake contains a carbon sheet of some sort designed to capture emissions and thus qualifies as a "pollution control device", and CARB rule is that once something is considered a Pollution Control Device you can't remove it or modify it unless the replacement works as effectively in controlling emissions (no aftermarket CAI does because apparently no one can affordably get access to the same carbon material GM used in the stock CAI since the company that makes it has an exclusive patent).

For vehicles I believe it's pre 1976 that is exempt from smog check, but not from emissions laws (technically still supposed to follow the rules, just no mandated check every two years). Pre 1967 are totally exempt.

This is probably the worst and most immature thing you can do. You're going to deliberately go out of your way to make someone look bad, possibly lose their job, and lose business because what? They did their job correctly? Get mad at the state, not the inspector. Gotta think before you act, the inspector has to fail those cars or risk losing his license, job, or paying a hefty fine, and you're going to try to cost him his job if he does what he is supposed to. If you go in for an inspection, his job is to do the inspection, not to hit pass pass pass. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

And before you say something like, "Oh, well he should at least tell you first before he fails you for modifications"

He can't, or else he can still get a ticket, lose his job, lose his license.

Think twice before you do a shitty thing like that.

Wrong, shorty headers are the only type of headers that CARB will approve, but that doesn't mean that all shorty headers are automatically approved. They still require EO numbers to pass a smog, because some manufacturers will put the O2 sensor on only one cylinder's pipe or make the pipes bigger which is a no-no to CA.

Are you required to go to a STAR? Not that it makes a difference, but a STAR station is more likely to catch things like that. If it is only pending, it would still fail if they do their job correctly.

note: CARB sticker does not mention brand name anywhere - only CARB compliant regulations....
Except than any smog inspector who actually knows how to do their job has to look up the EO number and make sure it matches the part number, manufacturer, your year, make, model, engine, etc. So that doesn't work most of the time.

It's one reason why cars these days have such tall overdrives/double overdrives, not for "driver comfort". [those numbers are off the top of my head, but you get the idea]

That being said, not sure if CARB cares about that or not. But just wanted to point out that gears can effect emissions. Do they effect them that much? No, but still I could see the EPA caring about that to some degree
This is basically why it would require a CARB number. However, there is not exactly a way for the smog inspector to know the gears are different, so just don't mention it and there won't be a problem.

Shorty Headers

For headers, only the shorties above are CARB compliant, and from what I've heard shorties in general don't offer any meaningful gains vs stock for an SS. For what it's worth I've heard ARH products are very high quality, and that their shorties are better quality than others.
You are correct, no gain in hp BUT.... they will help deliver that Deep Throaty Growl we all love so much.

No offense Bro. but I would need to see the before & after Dyno #'s to believe any CARB approved Shorty produced hp increase.

ok...of I can list what is good and what is bad:

Good:
K&N CAI Carbon Fiber...Lights out expensive, but cool as h3LL. Maybe 20-30 + HP
Shorty Headers, but no ??HP gains.
Cat Back...question the DB levels and dual mode exhaust. ?? HP gains.
But the sound not sure which would be the best. Friend says Borla. 1600 bucks for pipes and a couple of mufflers...

Bad:
ANY HighFlow AFtermarket CATs.
ANY Long Tube Headers
ANY Catch Cans.
ANY CAI that is not CARB Approved.

If you do any of the bad, remove them before the smog check.

Sounds like a lot of work just to pass a $70 bill.

If the HF Cats were a moduler quick click R&R that would be the ticket. But people don't sell to CA?? not sure.

I'm looking at the Good. without the catback or shorties.
I like the CatchCan though...the demos of what it does is amazing.
I guess you just add this to the oil that gets recycled at the local parts store.

You can get a highflow cat sent to CA, but some people will make you fill out paperwork that the part is for off-road use only or something.

But I see no point in ever buying high flow cats in ca, it's going to be illegal anyways so why not just straight pipe it? It's way cheaper, same or better gains, just as easy to reverse... Makes no sense to spend hundreds on a part when you can just do that.
