Does 10,000 song limit apply to iPod?

I know MyLink will only index/play the first 10,000 songs on a USB device like a flash drive, but does that same rule apply to mp3 players proper (i.e. iPod)?

Applies to all devices used as storage. It's a MyLink limit, not a device limit.

Or if you actually need more than 10,000 songs, connect using the aux input.

What if I don't have a My Link; does it still apply?

Gotcha. I thought perhaps the iPod had a way of indexing itself without using MyLink's system...wishful thinking I guess. Thanks

Actually, I'm mistaken. After reading the sticky, iPods index themselves. I don't know if the song limit will apply or not, but I would still assume so.

Easiest way to find out would be to test.

I wish I could. I don't have an iPod with that much capacity but plan on buying one only if I can navigate more 10,000 songs with it. Otherwise I'll just buy a flash drive because they're cheaper.

I have an ipod with over 12,000 songs, indexes just fine with Mylink (when it actually works, that's a whole other issue).

I did some more searching and it seems like iPods are a disaster with MyLink. I think I'll be going with a flash drive anyway. Thanks for your reply, as it helped alot.

I have a 64gb ipod touch and that seems to work alot better than the Ipod classic (I have two of them). Also, seems to work best if you turn off the audio system before you turn the car off, things work much better.

Yea sometimes I wonder if the problems are because people aren't using compatible generation iPods, specified in the manual.

I'm debating whether I should buy a 6th ("7th") gen 160gb classic (which is the only size that could hold almost all my songs- I have 30,000 plus), or if I should just buy a $35 64gb flash drive, which I would put 10,000 songs on and use MyLink's indexing system.

I question even needing access to 10,000 songs in your car. I have less than half that on my USB stick, and it's several days worth of continious listening.

You could have several USB sticks, and it would be much cheaper than an iPod.

I realize it's a ton of music. But I just like having the convenience of being able to shuffle through all my artists.

Anyway, I'm considering getting this flash drive. It should have the perfect capacity for 10,000 songs and seems like a dependable, affordable option compared to mixed reviews of how iPods work.

I use my 160gb ipod without any issues in my 2014 Camaro SS. Some may question why I have so much music on it and I simply ask them if they listen to the same cd day after day. When they say no I reply by saying that instead of having a ton of cd's in the car or having to change the songs on the drive each day to suit what I want to listen to I just switch to the cd I want and keep driving.
