Couldn't you lay down multiple layers of tape and pull off a layer of tape with each coat? Brainstorm idea.

That's a good idea, the only problem is that I think it would be hard to pull one layer of tape off at a time without pulling off all the layers.

Another tip: use a fresh can or clean the nozzle well. When I tried a redo the next day the nozzle was clogged & I got huge drops of paint coming out.

when you are done spraying each coat, it is best to turn the can upside down and spray until only air is coming out. this helps with the clogging. learned that the hard way lol.

I'm going to be on the hunt for some dip as well. This thread is fantastic. My car is black so the only thing I aim to dip are the rims but who knows, dipping other areas might create an interesting gloss/flat contrast.

Anyway, how many cans would you guys think for just the rims (RS 20")?

I used 4 cans on my rims - and I laid the plasti-dip pretty heavily too.

Cool beans. Thanks! Saw this thread where the person actually had a wheel machine (must work at the shop) and popped the bead to get behind the edge (http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123422). I'm hoping that won't be necessary for a seamless job.

I did the same thing as the guy in that other thread, except I used painters tape.

If by "same thing" you mean popping the tire bead to get good coverage of the lip edge of the rim, you guys have access to some combination of tools, money, or friends which unfortunately I do not. I live in an apartment and don't even own a jack, stands, or a ramp (used to when I had more room in another apartment but not now).

I'm just going to see how good I can do with the wheels on the car and go from there.

Wow, I've been wanting to black out the chin on my SS for a while now and I've had no luck in finding a piece of vinyl to do this. Looks like a lot of other people have done it with this product, I've got plenty of the blue painters tape from home depot. However spraying on my makes me nervous, I'll have to see if I have something I could practice on.

Oh no. By "same thing" I meant that I used painters tape to mask off the tires.
