Why the infatuation with 500 + RWHP ?

Except for the almost non-existent owners such as Sweaver, SuperchargedSS, and Midgard, who have installed cages, I am curious to know why anyone would want 500+ RWHP. Well under 500 can get you quickly thrown off the drag strip without a cage and those levels cannot be fully utilized on the street. Just curious.

With the 5th gen you need a good amount of power to get it moving. 500 hp is pretty much entry level nowadays

So if you can't use it at the strip without a cage and you can't use it on the street cause it won't come close to hooking, the only real purpose of it is "bragging rights"?

because not all tracks are going to kick you out

and it's not that hard to get it to hook..... my car hooked on the street.

and some people just like having that much power on tap. Some people like having that much power to utilize it, some people like it just to have it.

Some people find more joy out of building the car than actually racing it.

Well that would be a different story if you weren't going to get kicked off the track. I took it for granted that all NHRA techs would enforce the cage rule and it would kill me to have a 10 second car that I couldn't race. I am still running the stock Pirellis and on the street I can't even go full throttle after the first to second shift occurs without hitting the rev limiter due to excessive wheel spin. Consequently I do little playing on the street.

if ya gotta ask, ya wouldn't understand.

why would anyone want 400 hp...it's just a waste of gas when ya can do the speed limit with 100 hp or less.

i think it's called fun power, not horse power.

Bingo.

The V6 has MORE than enough HP to get you in trouble and is considerably cheaper. Why did you opt to get the V8? As you said, you can't use the 400hp your car came with all the time. Both models are identical on the outside besides the mail slot, wheels, and badging.

Tech differs from track to track. I've seen instances at my local track where they have let people make 9 second passes with only a helmet (no jacket, license, roll bar, etc).

Pretty much! Just because you got it, doesn't mean you gotta use it to its full ability 100% of the time.

You almost never use it! When I drive my car its never in boost. So I would say I use 20%, ( currently we had to stop at about 800 hp at the crank b/c it ran out of fuel) of what I have. If you get into boost on the street scary things start to happen.

The difference between the 400hp it came with and the 600hp it has now means - to me - the car provides a higer level of exciting and fun driving that you cannot get any other way. And you can use that power on the street, you just have to use your head and keep it below the posted.
