670 hp

First, I bleed Chevy blood and drink the kool-aid too so I sure as hell have no intention of starting anything here. That said, this month's Hot Rod stated that the new 5.8 in the GT500 makes 650 hp at 6,250 and 670 hp at 7,000. Yikes. Hate to give them credit but that is bad a$$. It also makes 510 ft/lbs at 2,000.

Time to throw the LS9 in next year's ZL1?? Or do we just continue to remind Ford loyalists that the ZR1 will own anything they can think of putting together?

Thoughts.

yeah it is impressive and it'll be interesting to see what GM does.
Also this is at least the third post involving this exact topic.

I'm a fan of both. It will be a great match up. Dodge will be playing catch up the whole time.

All GM has to do is cube the block, and put in a larger capacity blower, and done. But, they're too busy penny pinching.

I'm sure getting higher hp out of the LSA isn't an issue, it's the emissions and fuel economy that's the tricky part.

I know there are multiple posts regarding the GT500. Didn't know there were any related to the 670 number.

Nice, thats exactly what a 20% driveline loss through my auto blown camaro works out to 536RWHP=670FWHP. The 5.8 is a stick so I think I can still beat it in the 1/4 if its stock and on drag radials or stock tires. Not Stock pulley ect.. I might be in trouble..

i know what you mean but the 5.4 (now 5.8) is even a lot more friendlier to simple mods and can handle a lot more power than.. Not trying to put down the LSA but I am just stating common knowledge.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the zl1 have not been tested my a outside source. Chevy could actually be being conservative with there number the zl1 might be making more than 580hp. Which would make since because they might have anticipated that ford would come out with a more powerful version of the gt500. I personally think that chevy is playing the role of the underdog and when it comes time to see what car is really faster we might all be surprised.

it was chevy who officially released the ZL1 numbers way way first and Ford hasn't really made much of anything "official" yet other than simply "almost" confirming the 650hp numbers. The 2011-2012 GT500 with the 5.4 engine rated at 550hp has no problem getting 650 with a bigger TVS supercharger without any internal mods whatsoever. So, common sense says minimum 650hp for a 5.8 GT500 with the bigger TVS is not an issue. It will be at least 650 for sure but the only real question now is, can it make full use of it? I am most curious about the improvements to the suspension and effectiveness of the Launch Control System that the 2013 is going to finally have. The current GT500 with the SVTPP option is a capable track car now (faster than the CTS-V around a track) so with the suspension upgrade for the 2013, makes me wonder what it will do vs the ZL1 which I am sure is going to excel in tracks with turns.
I can't wait for the comparo.
