A thread like this comes along with the same "Usual Suspects" touting how the V6 is just as fast as the L99. Anything you do as far as mods go, the V8 will just respond so much better. Now I do see some extensively modded V6s that are fast but if the same was done to the V8 it would be that much faster. On top of that the automatic in the V8 can be tuned really nice so when on the drag strip it more than makes up for the 26HP extra the LS3 has. A tuned L99 with Headers, intake and a good driver will smoke an M6 with 100 more HP every me. The proof is below, in this race I raced a 645 whp Gen6 with my 475whp Gen5 L99. He did everything right and so did I. Now I did loose this one by 0.02 sec but he was 170 HP more with a lighter car. We both had drag radials and hooked up great. This is real world racing not paper/internet racing. The video is below. If you don't want to watch the whole thing skip to 22:45 for the race.

1/8th mile. That gap may have widened a bit by the end of the 1/4 mile. Agreed on the auto trans though.

The v6 inferiority is showing. Get over the v6 vs v8 issue. My garage has had both and both were fun cars
No inferiority here. I wouldn't want an L99 anyway because it's an automatic. I wanted the manual and the V6 fit within my budget at the time.

Oh, like you I do have another car that has a "V8". So, I have both.

Right, and the same outcome would happen if an L99 raced a run of the mill 6th gen
SS.

I know it gets extremely frustrating, but the black sheep it out there. After 7 months of searching, I kept getting 5th gens with 35k - 50k miles going for $22k - $25k. On my 8th month of searching I found a 2010 with 10,000 miles for $22k. Snatched her up and I haven't looked back since.

Sounds to me like you didn't want an L99 because you couldn't afford it. Not because you actually had a choice.

There's nothing wrong with owning a V6 Camaro, but to constantly try to convince people that your manual V6 is the God of all Camaro's is humorous.

I might have found a good one, but twice now I've found good ones and they sold before I could even get to see them haha.

Sometimes it sucks working longer days :(

Luckily I don't NEED a new car right now, so I can take my time finding it. But I'm so ready to get my v8.

I found mine when I was deployed overseas. Luckily I had an awesome dealer willing to hold it for me for free until I returned back to the states in a month. Landing back on U.S. soil, took a nap, and drove 10 hours to the dealer and signed the papers.

It's a good thing that you don't have to have it right now. It minimizes the chance of you buying a car with emotions.

Ain't that the truth. If I don't have the right feeling on a car, it's easy to walk away. I'm driving away in a gorgeous car, regardless whether I get a new one or not.

Just so boring to get into my 1LS for everyday driving, when my other toys are a 350 with full headers, or a procharged 3800...

Not as it sits in my garage today. Looks stock. Remember its not what your car can do..its what you get it to do.

Actually, I did have a choice, but that would've required me to sell my other car (that has a V8) which I was not willing to do. Also, I knew of the detuned nature of the L99 compared to the LS3. I would not get the L99 no matter what because I did not want an automatic.

The V6 Camaro offers a fantastic value for the price. However, when I keep hearing how superior the "V8" is compared to the "V6", you would think it would be a "night and day" difference in feel and performance with all that so called "torque". According to the OP, it apparently is not.

I hate faster cars that feel slow. What fun is that unless you're racing at the track. Heck, I am even reading over on the 6th gen forums that the new ZL1 6sp manual has a built in "bog" off idle programmed into the tune to protect the drivetrain. A built in "bog" off idle? That would drive me nuts.

Yep, Chevy built the 5th Gen ZL1 to be bulletproof regardless of weight penalty. But changed direction on 6th Gen to save every pound possible, so they tuned it to save the drivetrain from self destruction on launch
