Clanking sound after 1.2" drop?
I installed 1.2" BMR drop springs last week and I love them. The only thing is, is that I've noticed a clanking/rattling sound coming from my car. Sometimes it seems as though it's coming from the front, but sometimes from the rear. I checked for loose nuts/bolts and everything was fine. Is this normal since my springs are new, or is this something to be concerned about?

I had the Pfadt clunk after I installed their springs a while back, but haven't heard about BMR. I put Eibachs in and they have been quiet since day one. If everything was installed properly there should be NO noise. Double check your install to rule that out, then it can be narrowed down to the actual springs themselves. It sucks but Iv'e been there and done that

I've got the 1.4 BMR springs and over moderate to hard bumps the rear clicks noticeably loud. Had it checked twice and the install is 100% correct. I'm thinking its just the spring compressing fast and hitting itself?
I love my springs, but I want to go lower and being in NY I need something adjustable. Not to mention we have some of the worst roads in the country. Lots of bumps I hit cause the rear to shift a lot and roll. Someone else with BMRs had complained about it and I'm sure all springs will do that on these cars. Just a result of the IRS. |

Hey DarkneSS, do you have any rubbing issues on your fenders with 1.4 drop? What size tire and wheels do you run? I was thinking about 1.4 drop with 22's but didn't know if they would hit fenders or not.

I also had BMR 1.4 and they clanked on hard bump so I took them off a week later and got coil overs, no more problems since then

I'm REALLY hoping that its just a problem with alignment or with the springs still settling in. I really don't want to have to buy any more parts or have to replace the springs

What you are hearing is most likely the springs clanking together. Many spring manufacturers are starting to provide Spring insulators/isolators. (whatever you want to call them)
Note the Brown rubber on the close coils. I have seen others in the past use tubing from Home depot / Lowes, cut a slit and put it on the noisy coils. May not be the answer you are looking for but it does work. Best regards, Tyler 888-308-6007 |

That's exactly what it sounds like! So that is most likely the problem. Well, is this something that needs to be fixed, or something that could damage anything? honestly, it doesn't bother me that much because I can only hear it when the radio is off, and I rarely drive without the radio on. So is it ok to just leave it as is? |

If you try the tubing, just cut a slit in it and slide it over the springs. No need to uninstall them. The car being lifted with the suspension sagging should give you enough space between the coils to slide them on. Good luck and let us know how either of these work for you.

My BMR 1" drop springs do the same thing. I've contacted BMR and they told me they were trying to source out the spring tubing sleeves but have not heard any more about it. I'm going to the depot and see if I can find some tubing to make my own sleeves cause that clunk bugs the crap out of me!
