ZL1 pump install

I had my buddy install my ZL1 pump and he flashed a ZL1 vin to the car. Was that neccessary and will my tuner still need to adjust the fuel tables for the increase from boost? I'm just curious what effect flashing the vin did for now. Thanks.

im assuming he flashed over a stock FPCM - fuel pressure control module. To handle fuel supply on the new ZL1 pump.

Alot of us just paid for the ADM fpcm, they come program already for us and its plug and play.Versus your friend flashed your fpcm. Doing this allows the tuner to make changes and those changes being correctly calibrated for the increments on that pump.

If he did not flash you over to a Zl1 Vin with files the camaro ss fpcm is not the same controller for a ZL1 pump.

He did flash it over to a ZL1 vin. It was free so does that do the samething as getting a ADM fpcm?

Can anyone explain the difference between SS and ZL1 fuel pump?

More precisely, what do I get with the ZL1 fuel pump on the SS LS3 engine?
Sure ... I need a ZL1 FPCM.
But assuming I have a ZL1 pump, ZL1 FPCM with SS injections.
What result will it have on dyno?

What increase can be expected with ZL1 pump and ZL1 injectors on LS3? ...or custom injectors?

The difference between the SS (non-1LE) and ZL1 fuel pumps is capacity, with the ZL1 being higher. I don't know the SS pump capacity, but the ZL1 pump is rated at 250L/hr @ 65psi.

If your LS3 is stock, upgrading the pump, injectors, FPCM, etc., will not yield any more horsepower. The only reason to upgrade is to meet the additional fuel demand from adding some type of forced induction.

The stock SS pump will cover you for all normal bolt-ons, such as heads, cam, headers, and cold air intake, etc.

Hope that helps.

What do yo mean that he flashed it to a ZL1 vin? To get the benefits he must up load the program/file for a ZL1 or another custom program.

Yeah, I don't understand the VIN comment, either. Just license the FSCM and flash it to the ZL1 settings. No VIN tomfoolery is needed.

When one buys a oem zl1 FPCM, it is not programmed. You need to provide a vin number associated with a real Zl1 car to have dealer obtain access to write these files on the FPCM. This is how i understood this when it was mentioned long ago, a lot of people needed tech's that were willing to help at the time to get this method done correctly.

OP wont really know if his buddy did him right or wrong till its plugged in and looked at by a tuner.

Exactly lol. He used MDI to flash it. So I guess if it was done then it would be like getting an ADM fpcm? So it would make one less thing the tuner needs to adjust ?

The ZL1 pump will perform no different than the SS pump until the fpcm is flashed. It’s a 50.00 credit with hptuners

Thank you. I'm aware of that but my question was does flashing it with MDI to a ZL1 vin do anything? I know it still needs to be tuned but thats one less issue to adjust with. Or am I completely wrong ?

The flash he did should unlock it for use in tuning "old style ,ADMfpcm" , if not its locked and will need hp tuners credits to unlock it
" new style factory SS fpcm"

Cool. Thanks for all the help. I'm getting all the odds and ends together before I do the turbo and cam.

Like other's said , once your tuner gets his hands on the car you will know.

Only way to know what he did to the fpcm is to use tuning software
