Just "tested" my Richmond 4.10's

All the talk of the Richmond gears failing was making me nervous; I need to know my car is going to hold up under hard driving conditions. So, I just went out tonight a did a little street test. My car has 451 RWHP and 315/35-20 tires on the rear with Richmond 4.10 gears. I did three hard clutch-dump launches from 3000, 3500, and 4000 RPM. The last launch smoked the tires through first gear and well into a power shifted 2nd gear. I'm glad to report that nothing busted. Now, who knows what would happen with sticky tires on a drag strip. I believe the failed gears to date have more to do with anomalies in the steel than the design or size of the pinion. That said, it's Richmond's responsibility to perform the testing to ensure the steel is defect free.

That's good to hear. I'm probably only pushing 390-400 whp and I've had no issues w/ mine after 2k miles. I haven't done any extreme tests like yours though. ' Just hope I didn't get one of the bad sets!

I had to know, the uncertainty was bothering me.

I agree with that assessment, I think there was a bad batch of steel early in production. Glad to see someone taking things head on.
