Headers

I have read that headers set a code because of the O2 location but can't we move the O2 ourselves to another spot, like weld a new bung on or something? there has to be a way to prevent it other then a tune? Also what would happen if you just drove with the light on and don't put a tune in so that the dealer can't say anything. What would the effects be?

You can't move the the cats to their stock location with long tubes, leaving the CEL on is annoying and then you won't know if there is another problem if it comes up.

Get 2" bung extensions that screw into the o2 bung and you will have no problems. It will pull your sensor out of the exhaust stream and read fine.

That does not address the aft sensors, they are further away from their stock locations and thats why they fault... Is that not right?

So will anything happen if you just leave the light on? Will it run ok? How about running a pipe and then a coupling to screw the o2 into so that its pretty close to where the factory o2's where? Just a idea

TJBUSA is right, the 02 sensors are now in a different spot, and will throw a code with any LT headers. I suppose you could somehow drill in a threaded hole for an 02 sensor if you want....but most guys have them turned off when they get a tune. But it is not the cats I do not think that throws a code...just the 02 sensor.

I have had my headers and new catback on for about 3 weeks, but I needed a new camshaft and my tuner wants me to wait a tad longer before I get it tuned. It seems to run fine without a tune, but I am sure I am missing out on some power until I do.

Other than you not knowing if another engine code developed a more serious issue, no

The problem with the CEL and headers is the aft sensors are downstream of your cats are now a further distance away from the exhaust maniford and the factory sensors can't perform like they once did.

The o2 sensors throw a flag because of what it is sensing. With it pulled out of the exhaust stream, it does not sense it so the cel light does not trigger from what I have heard. I do not have this setup, but hear a few on here do have LT headers the the extensions and no Cel light and no tune.

Nope. Mine runs fine. I have a light. No issues. I want the light gone, but I just don't want to tune yet.

Tag,

I remember reading a thread where you reset the CEL and after a couple resets, the light didn't return. I jut installed ARH on my mbrp 3" and CEL came on quick. I cleared it 2 times. Worth clearing again?

This is temp since FI will be ordered within a month and it will be tuned.

Installing long tube headers without a tune is kinda like buying a new pair of running shoes, putting them on but not lacing and tying them. You'll not experience the full benefit of either.

Mine also runs fine with O2 extenders (rear) and no cats and no tune. Bunch of misinformation in this thread...

The extensions you speak of are needed because the aft sensors are too far away for the stock harness to reach. Its all about heat.
