I would bet there will be a 5th gen Z28. It may be a limited car but there has been a Z28 produced in every generation. It is too important of a nameplate and judging by the fact that the S/C Camaro is named the ZL1 which has less name recognition would lead me to believe there will be another 5th gen trim called the Z28. IMO it will be like a Grand Sport. Borrow parts from the ZL1 such as wheels, brakes and maybe some suspension and come with a warmed over dry sump LS3 for road racing. Both Pfadt and Peddars are GM approved suppliers. Also there is a little car called the SSX that may be a preview.

People keep quoting "the 5.5L" when in all likelihood, there won't be a 5.5L in the lineup. The 5.5L is a race engine only and its displacement has absolutely nothing to do with the gen V small blocks. When AMLS first restricted the displacement, production corvettes didn't all of a sudden drop down to a 6.0L LS7 in the Z06.

The next gen engines will almost certainly range from under 5L to over 6L, depending on the application.

Oh yes there will be a 5Gen Z28. I know this for sure because... and you can't get closer to the truth than that!

Yes, but you will hear nothing about it until the ZL1 has been launched and had it's day in the sun.

So far...
I think it would be a shame for them not to build a Z/28 in this generation. They took a big chance by bringing back the Camaro in the first place and they hit a homerun. They need to capitalize on the success of this model and build a street ready road course racer. I also think that they're waiting to see how the ZL1 sells, and how the other Camaros keep selling before they make a decision. They can always keep working on future models and have them close to ready and decide later when they should release them.

I think there should be one, and there are a number of us on Camaro5 that feel the basics for a Z28 should be an LS7 Camaro with an upgraded suspension. Others have other views, but that seems to be the most popular, followed closely by a car with an upgraded LS3 of some sort (again, with an upgraded suspension)
I feel the same way DG. My take from the discussions held on the board is that GM wants all the claps of thunder to go to the ZL1. That is deservedly so IMHO. An enormous amount of energy, time, money and effort went into the project. A cobbled together Z-28 using the GM parts bin with potential aftermarket joint collaboration has much potential and is intriguing. There is a good argument with support behind it. But, from a business point of view as noted by Number 3, it would not be a good marketing decision to release the Z-28 around the same time frame as the ZL1. After the ZL1 runs it course for a year or so, hopefully we will finally see the Gen5 Z-28 take it's place in the lineup. There would be no reason not to as I see it, for we have always had a Z-28 in every generation.

Saw an SS at the golf course the other day, the owner had taken off the SS badges and put Z28 Badges on... I guess once you label something, it becomes the thing that you have labeled it. Should put a "Smart" sticker on his forehead.

We had some people with the same type of mentality going on in the '60s/'70s. I remember one that I used to see all the time around 1970, 307 2barrel, auto tranny with Z/28 emblems and stripes, he would yammer on to anyone about his "Z/28". Never could get him to go run through the twisties with a few of us when we were getting together, funny how he always had something more important to do when asked.

"Cobbled together...using the parts bin"...

Does it not make "good business case sense" for the Team to be doing parallel engineering, testing, certification and validation of "certain newly created parts" for "broader application(s)"? You know, two mules can be utilized for two different end purposes...three, if you count an Automatic ZL1. Wheels/tires/brakes/differential/axle shafts/HD Tremec...one with an LSA and MR, and perhaps one with an LS7 and "enhanced FE4"...

Just a thought...or a wish?!

Before the page turns on the '12 calendar, I predict this icon... ...will be used more than once...

In MY '69, approx. 20,000 genuine Z/28s were assembled by GM. Today, by my estimation, there's about a 1/4 million...

"Missing the boat" comes to mind...
