HUD replacement on Convertible

Last night, my HUD shut down. A mild plastic/electronic odor was coming out of the air vents. I am no longer covered under warranty. Has any one added/replaced the HUD on a Convertible?

Did on my 15 1LE, wouldn't imagine it is that much different. Added a HUD to it about a month and a half ago. What kind of questions do you have?

1) Do i have to remove the front seats, center console and dashboard to access the HUD system.

2) Time wise, how long did the project take you to complete

Don't have to remove the seats. Center console and dash though, yes.

It took me about 8 hours. I am mechanically inclined. I could have done it a lot quicker but there wasn't a lot of info for the 14-15 models. So I had to research a lot of things as I went along. Plus I had to cut the holes for the HUD and switch so that took some time to get right. But overall, its quite easy, just take your time, go slow, and label everything

You "added" a HUD where one wasn't before. That's a lot more complicated than repairing or replacing a HUD on a car that already has one in place. Still, it could be a complicated job when it comes to removing the dash. For me, I'd like it to be right without the headaches. I'd take it to a shop.

What is more complicated about it? To remove the projector itself (if it is burned up), you still have to remove the dash to take it out and replace it. You can't get it out through where the gauges are. If it is the wiring, then it won't be that complicated at all, but he hasn't mentioned that.

If there wasn't a HUD there before, don't you have to actually cut out a hole for it? That's what I meant in it being more complicated for adding one to a dash that wasn't designed for one.

They where all designed for the HUD, it's not hard to do the install.
