I couldn't understand why the Ford fans were dancing in the streets after the GT500 beat the Camaro SS.... they aren't competitors. A $50,000 540BHP GT500 vs a 426BHP $30,000 Camaro SS..... why would anyone want that race. I don't think that people are paying attention to the simple fact that the Mustang platform has a hard time putting the higher power levels to the ground. Granted we know next to nothing about the 2013 GT500 with 650BHP except the fact that it has 650BHP. We also know just a bit more about the ZL1 Camaro so really only time will tell. Maybe Ford figured out how to get the power down effectively on the Mustang and that would be enough to turn the tides. As far as cornering I don't think there is much that can be done to get the Mustang up to the cornering ability of the ZL1 (based on GMs specs). 1.0G on the skid pad at 4,200 pounds is simply put impressive considering that its what the 3,650 pound Boss 302 can pull at 550 pounds less weight. |

You hit the nail on the head. I couldn't care less about the GT500 since I have no interest, but this as a 2012 owner is my real concern. I'm expecting improvements for MY2014, but if they answer back immediately for the MY2013 ZL1, I will definitely be upset.

The irony of the GT500 with a solid rear axle not being able to launch as well as the IRS Camaro is not lost on me.

I've seen Cobra's that need 800+ rwhp to run in the 10's.
Unless Ford does something different, the ZL1 doesn't have anything to worry about! The other thing that GM did right was to offer the ZL1 with an automatic! Ford offers stick only. Now, I guess I'll wait for a slightly used ZL1 to come up next year or a Heavily modded SS when someone steps up to a ZL1! By the way PQ, your car looks as nice or nicer than a ZL1 and I'll bet it runs pretty good too! |
