Not true for all dealers, Mine wants 1k down on all his orders regardless if its a camaro or a cruze. I have in writing that the 1k is refundable if I where to back out for any reason, oh and my dealer is also selling his only allocated Zl1 to me at MSRP. It varies by dealer, also welcome to C5!

I've noticed most people on this forum don't see anything more than that 10-13sec. sprint to the finish line when they talk about performance driving. So, when you show dyno numbers or speak about your mods the only question they ask is how fast is it on the 1/4mile.

Those of us that want to do real world driving understand it's not about how many seconds you can go from 0-60, or do a 1/4mile sprint. I'm sure it's fun, and is used to show some level of performance, handling and driver skill under those specific conditions but that's not real world driving 100 percent of the time.

Performance driving includes corners as well as straightaways and a manual transmission can't be beat in that scenario thus welcome to the world of paddle shifting to attempt to compensate for those that want to do more than drive in a straight line. I'm with you stick shifting rocks.

Cheap and easy for the first pulley and tune change. Then your uncontrollable lust for power will take over and your wallet will

I do agree with you on the part that there is more to performance driving than just quarter mile, but 1/4 mile is more of an indicator as to the power of a car than pretty much ANY road course can tell you! A high trap speed is an indicator of your horsepower. Traction is also a variable, but that could be said for pretty much any driving event!

Weight and weight bias, unsprung weight, corner weight, etc. is WAY (or weigh, if I wanted to use a pun ) more conducive to a road course than power. Power is good for coming out of corners (actually that would be torque. An example that I'll use is a Lotus. They aren't high horse cars (or an Ariel Atom for an extreme example), but have low weight, good balance of power to weight and can get the job done and quite well in the hands of a capable driver

As far as you manual transmission...........Granted, on a road course, they are possibly better because of the control over revs and downshifting and stuff, but maybe it's just that the GM trans doesn't do it as well as say a BMW DCT or a Porsche PDK, or even an over the top example, a Ferrari or Lambo. Any of them will throw your head into the back seat and will change gears quicker than anyone but a seasoned pro. Not to mention that they won't miss a gear!

I understand that the ZL1 doesn't have a dual clutch A6 (even the Vettes don't have them), but it's the automatic versus manual debate that I'm talking about now, because you said that an automatic was only good for drag racing and I'm claiming that your opinion and mine differ. The ZL1 would be ABSOLUTELY MORE AMAZING with a DCT!

The which is better debate has and will go on for as long as there are cars though and I guess that we can agree to disagree. I will go so far as to say that the current A6 trans is not as good as the current M6, if you're going to road race the car, but even with the "dinosaur A6", I'll still take it over the stick! Once again, my opinion (and many others too because GM now offers the ZL1 in both flavors).

Peace!

I notice that the Boss Mustang was priced at over $60,000, I'm like that's as much as the Dang GT500, , but sure enough, now I notice they are down in the $40, 000 rang now. I think Dealers do that crap betting on people wanting to be the first to own something, wait a bit and the will drop them prices real quick!!

All valid points. But, I love manual. Wish the TR6060, clutch and shifter combination was better suited on the Camaro. But, maybe that's just asking for too much in the 21st. century on a domestic.

Many thanks to all that responded to my post! What a great group! The sales person claimed that he told the Sales Manager of my $3,000 over sticker offer and that the Sales Manager talked to one of the owners. Claimed that the owner turned down my offer and said he would only deal with local customers.
