Rattle in the trunk!!! Not from the spoiler!!

So a few weeks ago, a good friend from this forum had me check my spoiler bolts to make sure they were all tight. 2 were loose so we tightened them up. I thought all was good, until a few days ago I kept getting a strange sound when I opened my trunk. It didn't sound like something inside, it sounded more like leaves being crushed on the sides of the openeing I know that sounds weird, but that's just what it sounded like! So I checked all the spoiler bolts, all there and tight. Anyway, a couple days ago as I was accelerating from a stop I heard it loud and clear, something was rolling around INSIDE the trunk lid!! So now I guess I have to take off the trunk and see if I can get whatever it is out. Anyone else have this issue?

There are 6 nuts to tighten. I bet you only did 4.

Scott, you're awesome! You are correct. I will find the other 2, most likely only one now. I'll let you know, thank you sir!

Here is a trick to get the other one that came off. Slightly pull the carpeting out and the bottom of the trunk lid and it may fall in your hand. Then of coarse you have to take the carpeting off to get it back on and tighten the other one.

Mine feel in my hand.

You may need a telescoping magnetic retrieving tool, You remove trunk lid liner (or just the bottom corner) Insert the magnet towards the lower corner of the trunk lid, you should hear the magnet pick up the nut Remove the tool and nut. Reinstall the nut.

Notes: There may be more than four nuts, there may be two in the middle for a total of six. Also there may be extra nuts, dropped when it was installed or replaced by someone that didn’t retrieve the original nut.

I had one of those tools, but I lost it. If I can't get it out, I will go pick one up. Scott said above that there are 6 nuts total.

You will need to do something to keep them from coming loose again.

I tightened mine once without anything and a month later they came loose again, so I used loctight.

Others have used nylock nuts.

I used to see spoilers and ground f/x bolted on with some kind of sealer/black goop on the bolts. I think thats why they come loose, GM used no sealer..just metal to metal
