Security Coding????

My dealer has tried to slip something called "Security Coding" on the purchase order for my car. It is supposed to arrive by Saturday.

I am positive this is just another BS dealer add (window etching, etc...)

I told them to take it off and send me a new PO. I told them I did not order any security coding from GM and since the car has not yet arrived at the dealership, there could not be any BS dealer adds.

Has anyone else run into this "Security Coding" thing?

This has been by far the most frustrating car buying experience of my life.

I could not even get updates on my order from my dealer - I was getting them from Camaro Scotty. Should have bought the car from him.

Almost there - been waiting since October.

That's a new one to me. The only thing I can think of is the coding for the keys but that is done at the factory in order to drive the car.

Does the factory do window vin etching? Maybe that's what they mean?

I believe it's a code thats put on the car in blacklight ink...or whatever it is, it's so if the car gets stolen they can't just file the vin off the engine block, or cover it up and the car can be tracked back to the dealer....I called BS on it too, my dealer says I have to have it...I'm just gonna suck it up and pay

Take it off, or make it free. There's never any "have to have" dealer adds. If they wont, get a different dealer.

Too much invested in the car now to just find a different dealer. What's the cost Koolwip?

Dealership Manager called me back. He said that Security Coding thing is on all their purchase orders. Said it was for wheel and tire warranty, free wash pass for a year, etc...

They took it off. Now - just waiting, they tell me the car is still in the shipping stage but that I should have it this week.

We will see.
