Dyno Results / Clutch Replacement
I stopped by Vengeance today to see what the car was putting down. Thanks to David, Taylor, and Robert for fitting me in unannounced and taking good care of me and the Z.
The bad news: It looks like the stock clutch is overwhelmed by the raw power of this monsterous beast that GM has bestowed upon us. LOL. (see the graph below) The good news: The numbers should be really good once I put a decent clutch in there, because even with slipping the numbers look promising. It looks like things start to play nice at the top of the pull, so I'm guessing peak power is pretty close to where it will be with a new clutch. So which clutch do you guys like? Monster, RPS, other? Just wanted to share. I'll update once I get it fixed. In the meantime, here's the mod list and dyno graph for the heck of it: Current list of power mods: - Rotofab intake - 28% (10") pulley - ID850's - TR7ix plugs/MSD wires - Stainless Power 1-7/8" headers - JMS fuel pump booster - Remote tune by Ted Jannetty

Also- is there any way this could just be wheel spin on the roller? I never feel any clutch slipping on the street

It's just weird to me because it doesn't do it on the street. I did a few hits this morning on asphalt in 4th at 2500 and 3000rpm, and there was zero wheel slip or perceivable clutch slip.
I also plotted mph vs rpm from some data logging a month ago, and it was a perfectly straight line. I have my sct with me. I'm going to get some data today in 4th and see what the mph vs rpm looks like.

Did a log today in 4th gear and made a plot of rpm/mph vs rpm to compare to the dyno plot. Also looked at a data file I have from a month ago where I logged in 3rd gear for comparison.
I guess a picture is worth a thousand words (and a clutch is worth a couple thousand dollars... ) Gotta pay to play, but I really thought the stock clutch would hold 650-ish without too much drama. Appears that I was mistaken. DOH! Anybody have experiences with the Monster LT1-S or any other "reasonably" priced clutch? I don't want to spend 2k+ for just the darn parts (such as RPS).

I think I'm around 600-620 to the wheels and I swear I feel clutch slipping on the track so I would agree with your findings...

Throw a Monster Triple Disk in there and beat the hell out it. It will take it.
My factory clutch started giving up at the 670 rwhp number after about 30 passes. Great factory clutch. I miss it in some respects. The Monster is a pure Beasst Man. You will not be disappointed. Great numbers by the way. Perfect street Car at that level.

Thanks! It's an Anderson Composites Z28 carbon fiber piece. The previous owner was wonderfully meticulous and had a body shop go over it and clear it again with UV protectant, so hopefully it will look good for a long time. Quote:
I'll give you a shout soon. Maybe you have an awesome Black Friday deal coming up on a Monster clutch for me???

I believe no lift shift means no lifting from the gas. So you can keep the gas floored and just use the clutch
