I'm trying to change my shifter assembly out. Does anybody have a step by step walkthrough?

Not sure what solutions have come up in this thread (too lazy to read it all ), but this happens to me once in awhile, and I found that all that is needed - for automatics, anyway - is to press the shifter button a few times while in park - after a few presses you'll hear a click in the steering column which is the solenoid holding in the key or something, so either the solenoid is sticking/faulty, or it just isn't getting the command to release/energize (i.e. problem with the shifter).

I took my car to the dealer and they replaced the shifter piece. I just hope they updated the part since there seems to be so many issues.

Thanks. I want to change mine out and hopefully that will fix my issue. I'm scared that one day I won't be able to take the key out. I'm trying to find a document on how you swap this out and if you have to go under the car or not.
