If you haven't pulled you gauges out yet you'll be happy to know it's pretty easy and quick.I've had mine out a couple times and it's not bad. Good luck and is the pic only half of the HUD ?

The picture is the HUD with its back plastic cover removed. So that main unit looks easy to cut in half and the back cover is a simple cut since it's only plastic with nothing attached to it.

It sure looks like it will fit through the guage cluster just by separating the halves and reassembling .

Wow. That's pretty form-fitting. Seems like not much gain in those shots.

The display is actually right by the heatsink and actually reflects off a mirror before reflecting off the movable mirror.

Anyone remember that old movie called “Don’t Raise the Bridge, Lower the Water”? I don’t, but I have always remembered that name and apply that logic to tough problems.

Taking the dash out looks like a time consuming effort. So, the first thing I did when I got the HUD is to remove it’s back cover and see if I could cut it in two, fit the pieces through the cut dash opening, and then re-assemble it under the dash. Looking at the picture, it seems pretty easy to cut the unit in half (almost in the vertical center line of the picture), both the main assembly and back cover. These pieces will fit through the template Ofer sent. Just need to unscrew the little motor assembly (in the upper left of the picture) and re-attach it once in the dash.

What I don’t know yet is how much “assembly room” there is to work with under the dash with maybe just the speedo removed. One “half” has 2 mounting points and the other 3. So that should be enough support without having to actually glue it back together I’ll put a good tape seal around the cut to keep dust out..

Can anyone comment on the amount of space to work with in there? I’ll probably pull the speedo out this weekend and do a mock assembly process to check it out before I cut the unit in half.

All comments are welcome…

Don O
If I cut it, it will be with the electronics in one half and the mirror and motor in the other. Seems like a very simple plastic cut on both the front and back halves. I'll know more after I pull the speedo and see how much room there is to re-assemble.

Thanks to Ofer for getting this whole thing started !
