Oil Cooler Coolant Line
I need to delete the factory oil cooler on my LS3 because of fitment issues (conversion.) I have read some horror stories about the coolant line that screws into the block from the oil cooler either being cross threaded from the factory or the hardened thread sealer/locker messing the threads up on the way out.
Any suggestions on how to remove it without damaging things? |

My factory one is gone. You can buy a screw in plug that goes in the block. I don't have the part number handy. I am using an improved racing adapter for an after market setrab cooler.

I removed my factory oil cooler. I had heard about the same issues with that coolant fitting being cross-threaded in the block too. Kinda scared me to take it out!!! But luckily, mine came out without any issues. It was fairly loose too! I just used a pair of "water pump pliers" and it took very little effort to get it to start turning out. Not sure if I just got lucky or what, but I was pleasantly surprised. I bought a big brass plug (not sure of the GM Part Number) and installed it with some high temp RTV around the outer lip. Haven't had any issues yet!!
Pretty sure this was the plug.... http://www.texas-speed.com/p-233-gm-...lant-plug.aspx |

I think the issue was more that those fittings were not torqued during the factory install. Many, like mine, were leaking. I tightened it, and the problem was solved. Haven't really heard of any that were cross-threaded.

I haven't noticed any increase on my oil temp gauge. But then again, since our factory gauges are not direct reading (and only based on perceived electronic parameters or conditions at the time), I'm not quite sure that any "real" increase in oil temps would even show up on the factory gauge!!! I wish AutoMeter or someone would make some "real" direct reading gauges for our center consoles!!!

I'll look at mine on my drive in tomorrow and snap a pic.
After my first cooler broke at the track, I bought all the parts to delete it. I got mine replaced under warranty but I don't trust it.

This would be a big seller, I too have oil cooler delete but when engine pressed hard with s/c it does get hotter than I like, but like they say the gauge gets worst as it gets hotter as far as calibration goes so prob not as hot as it says, looking for aftermarket oil cooler kit to go with whipple installed without interfering.

I forgot to look at mine on the drive in this morning too!!! But it's only been sitting for about 10 minutes. Went out and started it up just now and let it run for a few minutes....oil temp was at about 210-215-ish. My car doesn't have a supercharger, turbos, or nitrous, just all "N/A" with basic bolt-ons and tune. I don't do autocross or road course, just a little drag racing every once in a while, so in my case I don't think the oil cooler delete is going to hurt me.

I'm driving out to the burbs today at 1pm so I'll look at my temps again and snap that pic.
I was going to wait until I did H/C to delete the cooler.
