"best" gas to get for the v8?
I'm not sure if this is the topic to ask this and I'm sure it's been discussed but I can't find it but what is the "best" gas to get for the v8? I live in Cali. I've heard good and bad about shell and some good things about chevron. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Are you talking about which brand of gas is the best? That I can't help you with. I usually try to only fill up from the major companies though. If you're talking about what octane gas to use I would recommend checking your owners manual. Then again, you drive a charger, so my camaro related answers probably are useless

So long as you're using refined, detergent gas like just about every station in the US sells, you'll be fine. I really don't follow the marketing hype of the detergent differences between Shell, Chevron, 76, etc because it's been proven time and again that while some detergents are beneficial, the overall quality can be severly altered by the storage system in which it resides.
I don't think it's worth worrying about so long as you're following your owner's book in terms of octane and minimum standards. My folks have owned cars for years that have seen nothing but Arco and discount store gas and in 100k miles they've never had issues with their fuel systems. |

91 octane is what the car is tuned for and is the highest octane you can get in CA unless you get racing gas but that wouldn't matter because the car is tuned for 91. I doubt there is any difference between brands of gas that can be demonstrated. With environmental regulations they all use new fuel tanks in the ground so you don't need to worry about contamination so pick your brand and buy 91 octane and you will be fine.

Premium (91 octane in Cali) is the "best" for your car. Brand of gasoline is really just a preference today. Some brands may advertise detergents and cleaners in their gas but the truth is all brands have some form of this. I typically choose a gas station with a decent price and whatever is convenient at the time. I would stay away from stations that always look like a ghost town though....

Great question.....the problem is that there are a ton of answers. I used Shell 93 exclusively but like you also heard bad things. I also had a dyno that showed signs of bad gas. I have since switched to BP but filled up with Sunoco today for the first time. I have heard great things about Sunoco but the station is small, slow and out of the way. I fear that they may have aged gas. I guess I'll stick with BP for now.
BTW, when I started the car after fillup, it popped or maybe backfired. It was pretty loud and I've never heard that before. This was my first Sunoco fillup....kinda got me scared.
