Great post my 2012 45th vet just bent the 5th bow last week . Spoke with GM and the dealer and they will fix it . Have to pay about 280 out of pocket. I think I am going to replace it my self I can't think of a dink or scratch on the quarter panel. My question is their am upgrade to the water bag. Thanks

OP, did the dealership compensate you for doing the work yourself??? While I can understand the logic behind doing the job yourself (no one will care for your baby like you), I don't agree with it. If you "had" screwed something else up while doing it, YOU would have been liable. Not to mention the time and headache of doing it yourself. Crazy. I had my local chevy dealer perform this task on my 2011. They had the car for two weeks. They parked the car inside each night as well until the job began. They updated me every other day on the progress and issues. They replaced the water management bag as well while they were in there. All under the dealership's nickel. The excuse that they don't do many of them is not the car owner's issue. When finished, I checked my car from head to toe and was very satisfied that no other damage was done and that all worked well.

You got lucky. Most dealerships would not have the expertise to do this and would end up f'ing it up.

Estimating software for our body shop call for 5.5 hours on the top alone plus some other time for removing the rear seat etc. What I can't seem to find in our estimating software is the water bag. Any experience? Should I replace it at the same time? |

I called my dealer today and was told it would be 1400 to fix this 5th bow.... needless to say I'm going to be holding off on this unless I can find a really detailed guide on this repair.

It is time-consuming and you have to take a lot of the rear of the car apart to get the complete top out of the car but it can be done. If you're near Hudson Wisconsin I would even help you out.
