Our cars are pretty solid if it was just DD no mods on a highway... i mean i have mods i have fun with it on highways here and there and drive normal almost everywhere, never had no issues, normal changes etc.

I think you're not telling us something.
Well the fuel cuts off at the redline so no, I wasn't going 8K RPM.

There have been a few that have lost the bottom end under normal driving back in 2013. It’s very hard to know what was done in the original 3000 miles. How many months are you out of warranty.

That’s true when you are normally accelerating, bug instead, if you have a manual trans and go to shift to a lower gear such as 5th to 4th but mistakenly hit a lower gear such as second and let the clutch out, the engine will mechanically over-rev potentially causing damage to the engine.

It can happen. I had the LS2 in my 06 Vette pop sitting at a stoplight. I was out of warranty (by time) and GM actually still comped the engine. All I paid was tax. Contact GM and see if they might be willing to help out. Even if they cover 1/2, 1/3, it's better than nothing.

Good point but that wasn't the case, would definitely have noticed that and tied the two actions/events together. There was nothing noticeable before it died, no shaking, weird noises, annunciator lights, etc., no abnormal driving..

The car has been sluggish on startup which I attributed to a battery that would need replaced soon but don't know if that's at all relevant.

This is the right thing to do, call GM, they will usually work with you if you are stock..

My car is a 2012. I bought it January 2013 with 3K miles on it. When I plug my VIN into the Chevy website it says my warranty expired 06.30.17.

Hah. I actually have very good comprehension Dad. Just verifying all avenues...and many have disagreed about what "stock" connotes.

Btw: Stock to me means nothing has been altered (apart from oem parts). So, just verifying...to cover all avenues.

These things can happen. Sorry to hear about it. Unless you have a very qualified mechanic who can pinpoint what the problem was then we're just drawing straws at what the cause of the failure could be.

Good luck.
